I am getting my MCS this week (hopefully it arrives) and want to replace the 17 S-Lites with the 17 R90s.

First, are the tire sizes the same?

What is the best price on the R90s? My dealer wants $2500.00 !!! Anyone selling a set?

Thank you in advance.

might want to try calling Tirerack. The wheel is a BBS RXII. If they have them, they would certainly be less than what the dealer is asking....

That includes the tires, at least it does with most dealers. The wheels alone should run in the $1500 range. They can remount your stock 17" tires onto the R90's.

You can get the R90's cheaper from Brian at bmwparts@classicautocampus.com, shipped.

See ya,
JS

If your still interested I have a set of R90's for sale. They came with my mini from the dealer. The dealer charged me $2750 for the wheels and tires. I sold my S with the OE s-lites and run flats. If your interested I have 4 R90's 'like new'" in boxes with 250 miles on them. $1650 plus shipping.

First of all, if you have to have 17's, there are plenty of lighter choices out there (lighter is better!) vs. the R90's. I had convinced myself to go with the R90's before doing extensive research here and on MINI2.
ficcion convinced me to go with the 16" Rota Circuit 8's from R-Speed. I bought them with Toyo T1S Proxes for under $1200 (thanks again, Peter!). The S-Lites and R90's are both around 24lbs and the Toyo's are a couple pounds lighter too, so I lost around 40lbs of unsprung weight. The difference I noticed after only 50 miles on the S-Lites was incredible.
Definitely go with what floats your boat, but do yourself a favor and really think it through first.

The Dunlop tires that fit the R90 are available at tirerack.com for about $209 ea. The original Pirelli run flats that come with the S LIte wheels DO NOT fit the R90s. The R90s are $385 ea from my dealer in St. Louis, plus $100 ea for mounting and balancing. Some tire places will mount and balance for less, but if they don't have the proper experience or equipment they could damage the sidewalls or the radio transmitter inside that monitors the run flat tire pressure. If you buy the package as an upgrade from the dealer, which is about $2,600, you can then sell the S Lites and Pirelli run flats on e-Bay and net about $1,000. I haven't seen the R90s on e-Bay but you might look there. Good luck.

djzoll,

FYI - The MINI doesn't have radio transmitters in the wheels to detect flat tires. It uses the ABS sensors to detect a change in the rolling diameter of the wheels, indicating a flat tire. Also, all the 17" runflats sold on MINIs (Pirelli, Dunlop, Goodyear) are completely interchangeable on the S-Lites and R90s.

Cheers,

James

I have a set of R90's that I would like to sell. They have Kumho Ecsta 712 tires mounted on them with about 4000 miles on the tires. I bought the rims used so there are not in perfect condiction, but they are still very very clean. With the tires and rims I would take 1400.00. I live in Colorado Springs, Co. Let me know if you are interested.

James,
Thanks for the clarification. I believe you are correct. The info I posted previously was from the dealer. I guess I should know better than to believe the dealer. Thanks.
