How easy was it? What were the results?

I was pretty disappointed w/ Langka. Click here to read an article I came across on paint chip repair. I have yet to actually perform this process, but it seems far more likely to produce the results I'm looking for.

I definitely didn't have great luck with Langka and have found using a toothpick works just as well. It was pretty easy to use as I recall.

 

I used it on some longish scratches and it was OK, but not worth the fuss. I wound up using the Langka to knock down the blob and still had to wet sand to get the result I was looking for.

On tiny chips, I'd recommend it. It really does a nice job of removing the paint blob build up and bringing the touch-up paint down to clearcoat level. For a quick fix, it's good. If you are automotive ACD like myself, you may wind up wetsanding and compounding anyway, but for most it's a good solution.

 

My experience with Langka was merely acceptable. For a (very) small nick, I think it's OK. I suggest that anything larger than the pointy tip of a toothpick or that goes deeper than the primer ought to be repaired using the more standard methods (like the one in the link in minithemoocher's post)

Langka itself is very easy to use. I would recommend waiting as long as possible for the initial application of paint to dry for best results (or use a heat gun) before proceeding with the blob flattening rub (or whatever they call it).

 

My review...meh. No big shakes. I was disappointed, especially with the price.

 

Not impressed by this product either. Langka is a combination of rubbing compound and paint thinner. It smells horrible and you have to use it in a well ventilated area.

The product tends to dull the clearcoat, because after all it is a rubbing compound, so you have to be careful about its application.

Your best solution to eliminate and minimize chips is to install a clearbra kit. When you do that you will reduce your dependence on touch up paint and langka.

 

I have a clear bra...but all my chips (3...very small) are on the driver's side panel. They are so small/shallow I have trouble getting enough paint to stay in using the Langka process. I'm still experimenting w/ the product, though.

CARdiac, I live in Arlington...if you're feeling brave and have some touch up paint you could try my Langka kit to see if you like it. I do get to an occasional MetroplexMINI meeting now and again.

 

True, but 80-90% of paint chips take place in the front areas of the bonnet, the front bumper and leading edge of roof. The clearbra helps BIG TIME in minimizing this kind of sandblasting damage. Best money ever spent!

If you are affraid of wet-sanding, like another thread mentions, Langka is probably your best choice. It's definately not the miracle cure that a lot of people rave about, but it will do for chip touch-ups.

 

The chip is about 1/2 of a pencil eraser... as in one half (ie half moon) in the black roof. I was going to coat with black and then layer on the clear.... I am hoping to get it as close to the original so I need to use the Langka only a little bit..... my goal is to test the stuff on my Camaro that had a chip the size of an eraser so i get some practice.

Surprisingly, the front of the mini has only one very small chip that you can't even see......whew.
