This isn't an announcement of a planned event!!

I would like to post some questions though,

Am I the only one who has had thoughts about a MAJOR international event?

Has anyone got any idea of how to organize such a thing?

Would 2004 be a good year to meet somewhere in the central US?

With 5,000 members I'm sure that we have enough dedicated people to discuss this suggestion? Have we got the enough people to make it a reality?

Yeah, major event like that is probably a thing for 2004. I think it's safe to say there would be MINI5280 members who would be willing to help with the planning.

2003 will see some large regional events though. MINI5280 is planning two. One in May is a 3 day event and another in October (2-3 days).

that would be great... it was actually on my mind today... see, i'm planning a South Florida MINI Rally (MINI Meet #4?) and i thought of how great it would be to design a cross-country MINI rally... ah... that would be one fun event... going from coast to coast on a rally run for actual prizes would be great... i'm seriously considering what it would take to put one of these together...

Like a MINI Gumball ?

I'm thinking more along the lines of a 3-4 day event with a track day, autocross, car show, vendor area, and rally.

I thought the event would be exactly as DaveInDenver described it, a multi level event offering both participatory and non participatory segments.

Ya, but where?!?! I mean, place it East coast and screw the Westies and vice versa. As fun as this all sounds, I really doubt the feasibiltiy of it all. I mean, the old Minis do national events each year, but have 2 (that I know of), one East Coast, one West Coast.

No offense, but as much as I'd like to attend one of these, there's NO WAY in h-e-double hockey stick that I'd drive to TN or something. Yikes!!!

I thought that Minis in Northern Illinois (M.I.N.I.)and St. Louis (M.A.D.M.E.N.) were hosting an East meets West meet in 2004. That would be on the 45th anniversery of our beloved MInis. In 1989 the first East meets West meet was held in Denver, Colorado. That was alot of fun, still have the videos of the Funinkanna. I'm sure they had them in 94' and 99' just didn't go then.

Easy there, DID.

The portion of KS that is closest to you most certainly is flat and boring, but we've got some roads around KC that would challege the most avid mountain drivers.

I was actually organizing this sort of event... I've got all the paper works... need volunteers and Checkpoint Masters -AKA Local Mini Clubs within the US regions. Like SoCal and/or Vegas - Texas - Mid West areas - Florida or east Coast Clubs

It was submitted to MINIUSA ...
I was in the midst of gathering sponsors

I held off on it due to the lack of MINI owners at the time I began the production...

Now it seems like there are more MINI Owners....
If you are interested, please let me know and I can re-open the USAMINIRALLY Files... It can be internationally recieved... already have had national interest and just waiting for proper moment.

If you are seriosly interested...Lets RALLY!
we'll need more than 1000 entrants across the country for major national exposure.... Send me your ideas and how you can help!

I can get MINI Dealers across the US to sponsor pitstop events....

Lets talk!

Here is the first attempt at the Cross Country Mini Rally

Obviously things have changed, we were doing it for charity... but the date has since past... due mainly to limited mini owners at that time...

Now we have MANY MANY More Mini Owners....
I'm thinking LA or San Fran to Miami....
Pit stops in places such as Vegas... which could be the OFFICIAL Rally Party location due to the Party nature of that city...
then off to Colorado, texas, New Orleans, Miami and whatever we can get in between!

Lets Rally

There is a wonderful site in Wisconsin to hold a multi-day, multi-event venue like we are talking about in this forum. The place is Elkhart Lake, just outside of milwaukee, Wi. They host everything from formula one, to vintage racers, bike week etc. They have a wonderful layout, and a couple of great tracks including a formula trac thru wooded, hilly and twisted terrain that is just lovely.
World class pit area and paddock as well as concessions etc. Bet they would love a shot at adding a MINI rally to their vintage racer week or as a stand alone event.

when organizing a national event, you must consider the statistics of the MINI owners... where are the most? then, the ages of those owners... which will suggest their ability to attend such an event...

next... finding a location that suits... It never has to be central... It MUST however be in a location convieniant for the MOST attendees....

Example... lets say the Western region.... from Oregon to texas has the MOST mini Owners....
then a Location like Palm Springs/Vegas or even Phoenix would be optimum.... with weather considerations and local hosting situations. And to push it further east would be futile to event attendance.
Unless you can compensate for those who cannot attend due to distance by filling attendance with east coast owners, who would not travel so far west.

It's a HUGE undertaking....

I would suggest working with me in a national event that travels....
a cross country rally...with pit stops in major MINI markets....

I've already begun the foundation... just need interested parties and local Mini Groups and Clubs as hosts in the differant regions the rally passes through.

And of course a group of Mini's to make the cross country journey.

Lets Rally.

I think you're on to somthing. The possibilities are endless!
Vegas would be an excellent focal point for the rally.
