Count Me In!!
Just finished paying off all my loans from school..so now as soon as i save up enough for a nice down payment, i think ill be able to purchase my MCS.
Im not sure if im going to with a new MCS, or i might even go with a 2003 or 2004 MCS...just so i can save some cash...
Any thoughts on that?

i was thinking about going the used route myself -- but after looking at the prices, it is almost the same amount as a new one....(talk about holding their value !! ).

so i would also be curious to hear what anyone has to say about new vs. used...

Me too...

I am also in the "wannabe" club. I have become the die hard MINI fan and stay current on as much MINI info as possible.

I am getting closer to placing my order... hopefully around the first of the year for a Spring 2006 delivery but I need to get a outbuilding completed first to ensure that I have a comfortably safe area for the new MINI next spring =)

I was in that "club" for 2 years. It all started about the time Mark Wahlberg went to the big screen with Charlize Theron. About half way through the movie, I leaned over and whispered in my wife's ear... "I am DEFINITELY going to have to get me one of those..."

cAN't afford the new one?

I'll sell you a classic one for a fraction of the cost. It has exterior hinges, and ten inch wheels, a way a mini should be.

There is no S badging, but sure has Cooper S brakes.

I am in that club and i have been since Nov. when i first experienced the world of the MINI. I have been saving up and I was all set to order my car about 2 weeks ago. Then i got laid off. Now i am also hoping that the they dont discontinue my color (Electric Blue) before i get a new job else i will have to get a Hyper Blue 06.

I trust you were talking about a Mini and not a Charlize Theron to the wife

Count me in the club.. altho I'm more of a member of the "I'm on the waiting list to order one but time has slowed to a crawl" Club

I'm in, but maybe not for to much longer.

I had to sell my Ford Exploder before I could get one. I just sold it a week or so ago.

So I am looking for a good running classic Mini now.

I'm also in the club. Can't afford the insurance...plus my '92 Accord is still running strong, unfortuately.

Still, in 2 years, I'll hit the 25 magic insurance point. Hopefully I can afford one then (new engine then too!)

I've been in the club for 3 years.

Got a 15 yr old Integra at 250K that is still plugging away and remodeling expenses. So probably two years still. Used '06 MCS is what I'll probably look for.

I'm glad I found this support group.

It was a two year wait for me! Being that i was 17 when i wanted one? no way could i afford that.

When I wrecked my miata, i needed a replacement, and got my mini almost a year sooner than i was definitely planning to get it. But since i got it so soon, my down payment was tiny... i commend you all for waiting. I couldn't take it any more... and i'm actually not upset for buying it so soon. I don't spend money on any other hobby, why not throw it all into a great car i can play with all the time?

Good luck on your waits!! It's well worth it

Kudos to those saving their pennies - it will all be for the better. I'm a finance guy, so it kills me to see people 'buy' things they can't afford (and pay more $$ for the privilege.)
FWIW Peep, the used market is finally softening up, and there are a good number of MINIs out there - likely one to your spec!
I'd been pining for an MCS since late '02, and finally got one in February (see spec below.) I was lamenting the passing of IB and cogitating on HB or PH when this one showed up on ebay. Ended up getting it for 20% less than my new spec, and with more equipment (Nav, leather, aux gauges) than I would have ordered. For me it was a good tradeoff for the 22K miles it had.
In CA every $ counts, as we have to pay 8% sales tax and 2% reg on the value of the car. That alone saved over $500.
Hang in there - your day will come!

8% sales tax on a car purchase!

In NC, it's 3% of a new car purchase price, or 3% of the car's estimated value if it's used.

eric -- thanks for the well wishes -- i currently have a jeep wrangler that im paying off and would want to get a MCS and learn how to autocross !!!

i have thought about trading in the jeep but i have a dog and the jeep is kinda like his vehicle so....plus i could use it to take the mini places...and then i wouldnt have to drive it in the snow...

but i also want to get a house as well so its just a time of decisions and to be honest -- im tired of being the responsible one !!!! i wish i couls just get the mini and be happy... and my other fear is that the color that i am in love with is going away and that scares me....
so the question i have is -- is it good to get a used mini?? or is it better to get a new one...?

Assuming you want my favorite... Electric blue :P

I bought used, and haven't regreted it yet. I don't have previous records, because it didn't have a previous owner... but i've been able to fix any issue i had because it was still under alot of warranty
