R50/53 First Summer with a MINI
First Summer with a MINI
I'm up in the Toronto area and we have had a heat wave going for the last two weeks. It's been between 85 to 90F and swamp like humid. The odd thing is I have not been using the A/C in my 05MCS much at all. In any other car I would have the windows rolled up and the A/C on high and on recirculation. With the MINI I open the sun roof, open the windows and remain quite comfortable all through the day wearing a long sleeve shirt and tie and man is if fun to drive this way. Unfortuneately on the multi-land freeways I usually close up the MINI and put on the A/C because of wind noise. When entering the office it's actually too cold. When stopping at lights everyone else, other then convertibles, are closed up tight and I'm sure they figure the poor guy in the MINI has no A/C. Best summer driving yet.
Today I didn't close up the MINI on the freeway and pulled up along side a 911 Carera S. I waved, he waved, and puff I was gone and he was in my rear view mirror. He wasn't in a hurry, but neither was I. What a great car to drive. All I need is better cup holder.

It was about 90F last week in chicago and I didn't use the A/C either.
The compressor drains too much power. I usually turn on the climate
control on the expressway but turn it off on surface streets.
