First long road trip in my MINI

Let me start by saying that when I logged onto NAM tonight, I got a message telling me that I had not posted in a while, and suggested that I post something...bad MINI owner! So here goes nuthin'...

My hubby and I took MINI on a road trip from San Diego to Vegas on Memorial Day weekend - and I got 10 hours of wonderful motoring bliss!

At first I was a bit worried, to be honest. MINI is my daily driver, and while I do drive her quite a bit, I had never been in the seat over 2 hours at a stretch. I was concerned that the stiff sport seats might not be as comfy as I'd like for such a long drive. I am 6'1" and my husband is 6'5", so it was a real consideration if MINI would keep our posteriors and legs reasonably happy. I have to admit, the daytime drive out there was 6 hours with no stops, and I did have a bit of stiffness, but that's not unusual in any car. However, I had no residual problems, and my gambling ability did not suffer in the least

We left for home around 8PM on Sunday night, and the nighttime drive home was a blast! There was way less traffic, and I was able to really open her up and have a lot of fun! For anyone that hasn't done the drive from SoCal to Vegas, most of it is one very long 2-lane highway through desert filled with SUVs. It has the potential to be very tedious and boring. However, MINI's handling and size meant that I could get in between and around anything that got in my way, and had me smiling all the way! If I wasn't already completely happy with MINI, this would have sealed the deal.

Unfortunately, that was the last time I drove MINI. I have been travelling a lot lately and driving a lot of different rentals, all of which have been either boring or just plain painful to drive (Pontiac Vibe - which was actually interesting if not severely underpowered and klunky - a Hyundai Sonata, Chevy Impala, Buick Century, and - worst of all - the one I have now, a Pontiac Sunfire (I'll never go for the cheapo rental ever again ). And every time I see a MINI on the road, I get a little sad that my MINI is sitting in my garage. I hope she misses me as much as I miss her.

OK - that should satisfy my posting responsibility for a little while!!!

Carol

Yep, MINIs are awesome roadtrip/highway cruisers! I am thinking of taking my MCS on a roadtrip from Miami to New Orleans sometime later this year.

We spent 14 hours in our Mini going from Houston, TX to Orlando, FL. We had the same concerns... we had done the trip in my Camaro and were somewhat stiff... but with the Mini we felt great!!! We also drove during the day and night... I love the Driving lights for the Bayous of LA!

First I would like to thank Mini for great design and second I would like to thank Red Bull!

Yep MINIs are great traveling cars. Last weekend we ( wife and two kids) went to Monterey from Bishop California. 920 miles round trip. Mini did great, all were comfortable, and able to walk at the end of the day. If I have a choice I take it on any road trip that I have. We have all learned to pack a little better, and shop less. When the kids get bigger I probably wont get to take it on the family road trips as much. They are 11 8 currently. They are already looking forward to MORE (9hr drive) and AMVIV (4.5hrs) next year .

I've found that the mini does better in the winds (blowing wind, not windy road) than any other car I've driven. Also rock solid at speed, like last week on the California audibon (highway 5 thru central valley)

Neither. Try Rock Star -- and the diet version is actually tastier.
