alarm kit: parts sold seperately?

I was wondering if anybody knew if parts of the kit can be bought seperately. I'm in no real rush to get the alarm and would love to get it as cheap as possible. I've seen the stalk go for like 20$ and was hoping that another chance at that. So, can the parts be bought seperately, or does it come exclusively in a kit?

I believe the only part that comes seperately is the wiper stalk. It comes seperate due to the different ones in the cars. Are you sure the one you saw sell for $20 was the new 05 wiper stalk and not one that was removed from a car that had the alarm installed?

I believe MINI has changed the packaging to be two parts (due to '05, <'05 different sides.) $100 for the stalk , $195 for the siren, tilt sensor and interior sensor.

If you eagle-eye ebay you can see them come up every now and then at a fairly significant discount. You MAY be able to get a dirt cheap stalk, but all the ones I've seen are the replaced stalk. A wrecking yard might be a low cost option.

You might want to contact Brian Flick, Service Advisor at Classic MINI in Cleveland. I've gotten some very good information from him in the past - he seems to take a little more time to research things than some of the other SA's around.

His email is bmwparts@classicautocampus.com

well.. it was definitely a alarm stalk without the washer sensor. I only found one previous one for sale, but as I said i'm in no rush to get it. I actually only want it to get the auto close window and sunroof from remote, but want to wait till my warranty is over before doing anything electrical.

I talked to somone at classic and his responses often disregarded some of my questions. One of which was: Do you HAVE to use the new stalk or can you just keep your old one and not have the light?

anybody know?

How does the alarm help you with that? Are you talking about a mikeythemini add-on?

Can't confirm, but I can't see why you would need the alarm stalk. The BC1 just sends a signal to flash the light, so if there was no light, the signal just wouldn't be 'heard'.

yah.. for some reason the mikeythemini box requires an alarm kit. I emailed him to see if there was a way to do it without and see how he responds. also with the stalk it would be awesome if it would work without as I don't think a red light does much in terms of security.

Sweet - gonna get the auto folding mirrors, too? I'd LOVE those!

i saw those and also think they are awesome, but for the price, I don't think it's worth it. I'd rather take that money for other stuff than auto folding mirrors. Also, I don't have a problem with tight parking so it's more for cool factor than anything else.
