Car at Dealer still have 2 month wait.

Well my MC came in about a month earlier than expected.
I kind of wish now that I had taken off the month of July instead of August.
But at least it is there waiting for me.
Any sugestions on things to get done before I pick her up in August?
I'll be putting about 7,000 miles on her by the time I get home.
Thanks
Cheers
Shawn

I'm actually surprised your dealer will hold onto the car that long. I have heard stories of people ordering cars and after they sat on the lot more then 30days the dealer elected to sell the car.

Yeah - I'd get it in writing from your MA that they will hold the car for you until your specified pick-up date.

It may be different with MINI dealerships, as they don't usually have a very big inventory (from my experience), but car dealers generally don't want a sold car taking up space that could be used for another car which might bring in (more) money.

Are they charging you a storage fee?

That's weird... Most dealers make monthly payments to the manufacturer for the cars on their lot. So it cost them to have a car just sit there. I'm really surprised that the dealer wouldn't want you to take delivery at least within the month that the car was delivered to them. Have you talked to them about this? I'd ask them to clearly explain why you can't take your car home. My questions would be:
Is it really there?
Was it delivered with any problems that need to be resolved?
Why can't I pick it up?

Good luck.

Read the first post again, and look at where the person is posting from...

if he has it in his contract or paperwork to have pickup for a specific date, then that's the date to pick it up on. if the dealer jumped the gun and ordered it early, that's their problem.

He's posting from Fairbanks Alaska, where the temps. are ranging from 50ish to 70ish. Its a long drive to the dealer but he should be able to pick up the car if he wants. The questions are still valid, if he wants to persue it. His call.

The holdup is not on the dealer's end. This person has their 7,000 mile trip scheduled for August; it doesn't sound like anything other than that is preventing them from driving the car home today.

Yes, you're right. Its the subsequents posts that gave me the impression that the dealer was holding on to it. I guess it'd be difficult for him to reschedule his vacation. Too bad. Oh well, maybe the anticipation will make the delivery even more fun.

I had talked to my MA before ordering the Cooper, AAron said it being there would not be a problem. The MINI came in a month earlier than expected.

I will probably have one payment made on the car before I pick it up.
I'm going to get all the finnacing done well before the time that I fly down to
Denver.
I thought that since it will be there for a little bit, that I would have a couple of things done to it. So any sugestions?
Cheers
Shawn

On the point of my time off. I had to put in for the time off back in March.

Our work schedule is done a month in advance, VERY HARD to request a month off with out alot of notice.
The upside is I should be In Calafornia for the MINI on the Redwoods Extravganza in late Aug.
Cheers

right on! that sounds like a sweet road trip. As for what the dealer should do to it, try doing a search on "key memory" to see what programmable key memory options are available and have the dealer activate/deactivate those features for your car so its just the way you want it for your loooooooong drive home. good luck!

 Wow, Shawn! What fun you have in store! I agree...figure out how you want your key programmed and study all the pix in the Gallery here to get ideas for interior/exterior mods! You may want to add some graphics!

I love the trip you have planned.......excellent!

Order a parcel shelf, and ask if they'll install; have alarm installed; if Alaska doesn't have front license plates, ask the dealer NOT to drill holes in the front bumper...
There is an extensive delivery check-list that is floating around NAM somewhere.

What he said. I've heard stories about ordered cars being used for test drives when nothing else was available. I'm not sure if this is a CA law or US, but there's something about a car with x or more miles on it can't be sold as a new car.

My car came in early, too. (Had plane reservations, booked, etc.) But the car was only about a week early. I thought I'd go crazy - I can't imagine what you must be going through!

He can relax. Schomp (Denver) is an ethical dealer (relatively) that won't pull that kind of use-that-car-for-a-demo monkey business.

Wow. A MINI in Fairbanks AK. Could this be the furtherest point anyone can live from a dealer? Jimbo

My trip back will consit of going to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosimite Nat park, San Fransico, up the coast, Mini on the Redwoods, Cannon beach OR,

Seattle, Vancouver BC, then up to Fairbanks. Still trying to get all the logistics together. I'll have a month off of work to do all of this.
One thing that I'm going to get done is the clear bra protection, that is a must. The parcell shelf sounds like a good idea also. I'll bring a list wilth me on the key options that i'll want.
Any othe sugestions?

Cheers

a few months ago I inquired about the parcel shelf at Schomp. they do not carry it, nor will they get it. however U can still order it from Classic in Mentor OH (about $80 with 25% NAM discount) and install it yourself, It's not that hard. J

Run it up to the top of Pike's Peak. That is an awesome ride (up and down).

If you can "detour" through the southern part of Colorado, there are some nice passes down there was well.

I've been pulled over in my Subie for no front plate TWICE, no ticket though, I put it on the next day after the 2nd stop.
Before I leave CO I plan on lots of driving, hoping to get the the cars break in done before the BIG tip.
Cheers
