R50/53 Registered as a MINI or BMW?
Registered as a MINI or BMW?
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
I read this in the thread/post entitled "MC40 wins class in Silver State Classic". It states that the manufacturer of the car is "BMW" and the model is "MINI Cooper S". That post is locked so I could not ask the question there.
It made me wonder if the car is registered as a BMW in Nevada and what is it in other states? Mine is registered in California as a MNNI. I was disappointed it is not spelled MINI.
When I posted the question in a BMW thread RallyMINI responded that his car might be registered as a BMW.
Are there other states that spell MINI as MNNI or worse? Are there other states that register the cars as a BMW variant? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.

My missouri title says bmw. This caused confusion for the dmv when i went to renew my registration and the insurance card said mini. I had to waste a good half hour trying to convince them that mini is a bmw. I settled it by pointing out the vin numbers on both articles.

Mine is registered as a MNMI...go figure. Yes, a MNMI...one of a kind.
Let's remember this car is not a BMW anymore than a Neon is a Mercedes. This is not to compare the MINI to a Neon...oh nevermind. And I think the BMW owners actually get good service at Los Angeles MINI dealers.

Funny thing is and I’m saying it will, but all those typos on the registrations may get you out of a ticket if you ever do get one, if the person filling it out does not copy the registration letter for letter how it’s spelled.
I willhave to go check my registration, but IIRC, it is MINI. My insurance (Nationwide) has it listed as a BMW MINICOOP. It took my agent's office quite a while to find it. They had to eventually check using the first 3 letters of the VIN.

Your registration/title is correct in using MNNI. The National Crime
Information Center (NCIC) assigns a four-letter code to all vehicles.
MINI was already assigned to a company named "Miniscooter". Therefore,
MNNI was issued to the new MINI. The original Mini is an AUST. These are just the codes for the make of the car. There are even more confusing codes for the models.
The country of origin is Germany (BMW heritage). The country of manufacture is England.
That is your CSI lesson for the day.

If you are old enough to recall, there was a similar situation in the late 50s with a BMW/mini of sorts. The venerable Isetta. In some states it was registered as a BMW Isetta. It was the micro car with the front of the car that opened up like a refrigerator(Isetta was an Italian company that made motorscooters) to allow entrance and exit by the front seat passengers. It was powered by a BMW twin cylinder motorcycle engine in the rear. Two models were made, one had a traditional 4 wheel set up and included a single side door for the backseat passengers. The second model pushed the two rear wheels together in the back making the car look like a three wheeler.
that's odd...here in AZ it's a MINI ....Cooper S or Cooper...oh wait that might be on the insurrance...

Hijack over, back to the regularly scheduled thread already in progress. . .
