Check Engine Soon Light On !

We've got just 144 miles on an 05 MCSCa and the "Check Engine Soon" light in the tach comes on while making a run to FedEx/Kinkos for a copy. Turned off the engine and re-started it....light still on. When we got to Kinko's I shut it off again, waited about 10 minutres, and upon re-start the light went out? It stayed out for the 4 mile trip home.

The Owner's Manual says the light is related to engine emissions issues. Have we been driving it to gingerly?

Forget about it if the light stays out?

Mine came on for the first time at about 300 miles, and it has been coming on and off ever since. This is a known problem with the '05 MCSA. MINI is aware of it and is supposed to be working on a software fix. Talk to your dealer.

See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t=check+engine for some details.

Thanks for the info and the other Threads

Thanks, all. I read the other threads on this issue and printed out the Service Measure for reference.

With two other MINIs and neither having enough mileage (or serious problems) to merit a trip to the local dealer, I wasn't looking forward to trying to schedule an appointment so soon after purchase (from an out-of-state dealer). Thanks for the reassurrance.

My first MINI was an 02 MCS. It did the check-engine-light thing on a trip from Fort Worth to Albuquerque. It turned out to be an O2 sensor (twice). After the second one was replaced, it never came on again. It is not comforting driving around with it on . . .
