Mini on Speed

FYI: I see on Speed Channel this Friday 5/20/05 at 7am (pacific time) is a Tuner Transformation on a Mini Cooper. The info said it was a "track transformation". It might be interesting.

Thanks for the heads-up! I don't know if I have that channel but I'll have to check when I get home tonight. I'd like to see that.

This is prob a repeat of the one where they put in a NSD. The lead guy on the show is such a loser!

They are all tools, especially the guy that does the exterior mods.

Yes, that was the one. The owner seemed real thrilled.... not.

The best aspect of the show was seeing what goes into adding a JCW kit.

i saw that episode when it first aired. its ok. it lacks the energy and edge of pimp my ride and monster garage, but still interesting. i've been watching a lot of 'legends of motorsport' on speed. love those ralleys with the classic minis.

the best "transformation" show by far is Overhaulin' , but they tend to focus on classic cars.

I thought it was interesting to see how much work it was to add a LSD..even if it was a phantom grip and not a quaife.

Even though I missed it this week, Tuner Transformation is one of my guilty pleasures! Sure, it's full of misinformation and hokey mods, but who cares, it's fun and entertaining. I actually like the exterior mods guy He's the most entertaining guy on the show

What, you'd rather that speed shows another half-hour of NASCAR

(PS, I also like the legends of motorsports show - good way to wake up in the morning, eh?)

The owner of the car was a complete dope.

Otherwise, it was quite interesting watching the JCW kit being installed...as well as the LSD. Definitely an eye opener for someone who doesn't know what it takes.

First of all, the guy is on the MINI internet boards...Second - why was he a dope? They promised him a souped-up car and spend loads of dough giving him really ugly, stupid graphics and exchanging his performance parts for JCW parts. The only thing he gained was the LSD. I'm sure he even had to have his old exhaust put back on after the show.

old show..was on TV more then a year ago

I think he was disappointed with the parts. I believed his car already had a pulley in it and some other mods before they dropped in the JCW parts. Here's some old posts on the subject.

[/QUOTE] Exactly. He already had intake, pulley and exhaust. So they basically downgraded his pulley and exhaust and added a slightly different head, LSD and awful graphics. I would have been pissed.

It was a $10,000 budget for the "Transformation". I don't think he got his money's worth.

I would have sent it back and get a different head, a BBK, put the exhaust he had on it, and his ECU put back on. Oh don't forget about those coilovers..

I agree, but Overhaulin is "nuts". They do more like a $50-70,000 job in 7 days with a huge team of A players. They work night and day, sleep next to the car, don't sleep or look like wrecks when they finish it.

The upgrades they do are fantastic, I have been watching a few seasons and I have yet to see something that isn't of the highest quality. Lately they've been doing two cars in 7 days for Doublehaulin.

They do alot of "fibbing" while trying to fool with the owners and keep them in the dark.

Lets see them do a "classic MINI" and add a turbo kit, redo the body and interior, add performance suspension, FOOSE wheels, and exhaust. Heck, minis are so small they should do THREE in 7 days (one red, one white, one blue ala Italian Job) and the owners could be triplets!

Time to call their producers- what a hook.

I came on tonight specifically because I Tevoed this show and had to delete it within the first 5 minutes. The smug bastards were so pleased with themselves that they were going to take out his pulley, exhaust, and intake, and put in "you know what I'm thinkin? JCW? - Ohhh yeahh. Bigger blower, right? We can get more power out of this"

Track monster my

Thanks for wasting my time

The owner of the Tuner Transformation MINI is far from a dope. He is the founder of the Southern Ontario Mini Club (www.somc.on.ca) and knows MINIs inside out. We hit the track together every summer. Before the show his car already had Intake, Magnaflow, & Pulley. His reaction was an honest one (he was thinking to himself, no power gains, and heavier wheels), you saw his expression change when they told him they had thrown in the LSD. He did dyno the car after the "Transformation" and found that he had actually lost a bit of power. The graphics lasted on the car for about a week and the car has since been sold and replaced with the craziest MINI I have ever seen! Check out his blog on the project:

Crazy MINI
