She's been gone for only a few hours but...

I miss her already. Molly. My first true love.

My first true MINI love, that is! Molly was my '02 PS/B Cooper.

Her new owner drove her away today. I have a good feeling that the new owner will love her almost as much as I did - at least if I can judge anything by the fact that she was all giddy and had that familiar ear-to-ear grin pasted on her face as she pulled away! I hope that Molly brings her at least as much happiness as she brought me!

The new owner even agreed to keep Molly's name (not that I requested) to see if it "works" for her, but she reserves the right to change it if it doesn't. I have a feeling it will stick.

It was funny all the memories that suddenly flooded my mind after they drove away. What great memories!!

....so now I wait. To order an '06 MCS! I've had my configuration mostly decided for a while now, but I'm holding out for some of the rumored options - like Recaro seats and maybe some JCW bits (suspension?) from the factory. I also continue to hope for a.) improved MF buttons on the MFSW - something like the "old" 2-spoke setup and b.) better clock placement.

The new MCS will be PW/PW/anthracite with only a handful of options: LSD, DSC, Cold Wthr Pack, MFSW, Front and rear fogs, and OBC.

Oddly, Lmini/MissAlternateUniverse and I seem to be running in parallel universes - we're both going from PS/B MC CVT to PW/PW/anthracite MCS. However, among some other differences, she's staying with the auto and I'm moving to a manual tranny (and teaching the missus how to drive one).

I almost forgot how torturous and agoniziing the waiting and aniticipation is! But it's the good kind of torture - like the anticipation when your lying there and... oh, wait, this is a "G" rated forum. ...So, anyhow, I'm waiting, but I know that motoring ecstasy isn't far off!

....now if only I could find a cheap compact pickup truck for all the house projects I have lined up for this summer!

I'm right there with ya.

I'm getting ready to sell my '03 IB/W Cooper and purchase an '05 or '06 (if I can wait) MCS.

I haven't even started listing it yet, but I'm already feeling guilty. I think MINI Coopers may be the only cars with a soul. I know I'm really going to miss it. I told my friends this and they were like, "It's a machine, quit being stupid." They just don't get it.

I'm gonna have to find it a good owner like you did.

Oh I totally understand your anxiety over parting w/ Molly. Funny (...and even slightly sick? ) how these cars grow on you over time. I almost traded my Cooper in last fall, but just couldn't do it. Problem is, I've test driven all (...I mean all) the awesome '05 models and I'm STILL hooked on my current Cooper........and it still doesn't even have a freakin' name!!!! Geez, I've got it bad.

I'm sure someday something will come up that'll have me trading (not necessarily upgrading) for another MINI.....after all, if only for the price and practicality, there ain't much else worth putting on the road.

Since I've been thinking about selling Ollie, I'm pretty sure he's been running a little differently. I think he knows that I'm considering it, even though I don't know if I can actually do it. But that CB/blue MCSc I built yesterday looked PURDY DARN GOOD with the anthracite rims... Ooof.

Congrats on your pending MINI -- I'm sure you'll make just as many good memories with him/her!

Just for the heck of it, here is a picture of Molly a few weeks ago - she was all ready and waiting for a new owner to adopt her. She was very good about the whole process - no temper tantrums or "issues".

I am seriously worried that my next MINI will be as good as she was. Working at the dealership provides me the opportunity to drive a lot of different MINIs (although I primarily drove my very own), and I can honestly say that they are all different - and I don't like driving some as much as others. Some just don't feel as good as others to me - but of course, I would rather drive an "off" MINI than most anything else!

Oh, and just for fun (although please forgive my atrocious photo editing skills) here is a pic of what I hope to do - over some time - with the new one.

Since you can't tell from my bad editing, it is supposed to be all PW with Orange Shelby Stripes on the bonnet/boot, the roof is orange with PW Shelby stripes, and the fender spats will be painted PW. Yeah, I know, the editing is bad - but I was just trying to give myself a better idea of what I saw in my mind's eye. It's not completely original, but I like the concept - and I really like the orange. And, yes, I also know the spoiler is the wrong color. The wheels are just stand-ins. I plan to get the stock 16" V-spokes powder coated either black or anthracite. I'm thinking of also having the calipers powder coated orange.

Now, I won't be able to actually do all of this right off - and I won't even have the car for a few months - so I better not see any PW/Orange knock-offs out there before I can do mine!!!! ...I wasn't going to post the pic, but I guess I'm interested in a little feedback.

Personally, I like it. I'm usually not a big fan of orange, but in the right shade, that could be REALLY sharp. I think the PW/PW MINIs need some flash to stand out, but that's just my opinion.

Enjoy your wait. We're on the list but haven't even ordered yet. I'm hoping things work that we can keep Earl (our DS/B '04) when the new, as yet unnamed, MCS comes in later this year. . .

Waiting sux.

I dont think I will ever let Camel go.

I am only a resident here, and if I get kicked out, heheheh, I'm moving to a country that has Left Hand Drive, just so that I can keep my car. I aint even kidding.

I completely agree! I think I'm going to do a pretty straight orange, not light or dark, or particularly bright - just orange. I wasn't sold on PW until I came up with this idea. Coming out of the classy, but relatively plain PS/B I wanted something a little more distinctive - PW/PW is actually a little bland for what I wanted - so orange was what I''ve decided it needs to set it off!

...Believe it or not, my first concept actually had BIG orange flames on the sides... I tired of that after a few weeks and it was only an idea - I don't think I would have been happy with that for very long actually on the car.

BTW, thanks for all the support about my quasi-depression resulting from the void that Molly has left! I get a lot of people that tease me (usually good-naturedly) about how much I liked the car - and it's always good to know you're not alone.

But, as you can see, I am trying to move on and am putting my thought energies into the new MCS!

So Mini2Go, guess what?? A friend of mine in our local club (Uncle John on NAM) owns a PW MCS (+JCW) and did something similar. He did his roof, stripes, and mirror caps in Electric Blue. All the color changes were done by Cooperflags...it came out REALLY well. Good for you for planning this all out in advance...it'll look awesome and totally unique!!!

Interesting... Is his this one in CF's gallery?

I gather that Cooper Flags is under new ownership from the last time that I dealt with them. It's good to hear positive feedback about them. I haven't yet completely made up my mind who I'll be dealing with for the graphics - but I have browsed the CF gallery more than once! ....you'll also note my previous statement:
It's not completely original, but I like the concept - and I really like the orange.
Even if the individual elements of my overall design aren't original, I think the whole package is unique. Afterall, isn't unique MINI's middle name?

I just got news from the new owner... and guess what? She's keeping the name Molly!!! I knew it would stick. Molly is just, well, MOLLY!

She still loves everything about Molly and is still thrilled to have her! I have to say that it makes me happy knowing Molly has found a loving new owner - but she still holds a special place in my heart and even good news is somehow still bittersweet. ....kinda like news about an ex- that you haven't quite gotten over.

Of course, I'm sure nothing will help me to get over Molly better than a new MCS! Boy, this certainly adds an element to the anxious waiting period that I didn't expect - and certainly didn't experience during the first wait. ...this void...emptiness...near-remorse... ACK!!!! I think I need to spend some time thinking about the new one...

You are lucky knowing that your Molly ended up in good hands. I don't know where my first Little One is.

When I sold Streghetta (MCS03) I was sad too. Actually - I know I can tell this on NAM, others will not understand- the night before taking her to the dealer to pick up the new MCSC, I had a long talk with Streghetta and told her how much she meant to me etc. Sometimes I still miss her.
I love my Streghina (MCSC) but it took a while to bond with her in the same way I bonded with Streghetta. I guess the long drive to/from the Dragon brought us closer.
