Upgrading from '02MC to '05MCSa

After multiple attempts to teach my lovely wife to drive my MC stick shift, she has given the to the upgrade to a MCSa. While disappointed at parting with the stick, I guess there are at least the steptronic paddles to keep me happy - however one cannot ignore the upgrade to the MCS

I have reviewed the options on my MC and am thinking about some changes and thought I would throw out a few questions here....

1. Any issues with the MCS automatic - other than the "engine light" issue that appears to be a software bug... After going through the pains of owning a very early '02 MC I am somewhat conerned about the MCS automatic.

2. I currently have black panther leather and have not been impressed. I am contemplating the space age cloth option - any issues with wear and tear? Can someone post a pic - I have not made the 100 trip to the Mini dealer to check out options yet!

3. Since I am 6' 4" I am thinking about no sunroof this time. My Dad does not a sunroof and there is a big difference in headroom (IMHO).

4. The automatic climate control has also not been impressive - how would you all rate the standard "adjust your own temp" option?

5. I have a XM radio unit in my MC and I not excited about installing the Skifi2 option again. How would you all rate the Sirius OE install or is there another XM install option someone would suggest?

Lastly, for the current new owners of MCSa - what is the current wait time from order to delivery and is there anything worth waiting for an '06 for??????

Thanks in advance for you comments:smile:

I don't have a MCSa,but I do have manual temp. controls, not a big deal to operate IMO.I have gotten so used to the lay out I don't have to look at it to change things.
The biggest diff. in the 06's will probably just be another price hike

Just like you I went from an '02 MC manual to an '05 MCSa - I'm really enjoying the new car! From the day I placed my order to the day I picked up was 4 weeks. I've had no issues with the car so far (touch wood!).

I personally love the sunroof but some people swear it's more comfortable without it.

good luck!

1. Any issues with the MCS automatic - Not that I am aware of.

Without the sunroof, there feels to be more room. I do not have the specifics though.

I think the standard AC is great. Easy to use. I do not feel a need for the automatic AC.

I had my MCSa for 3 days now. I purchased out of state, and it took a little under 3 months. But one reason is because the dealership had to wait until 7 other MINIs arrived there to be transported with mine. The wait depends on the dealership you buy it from.

Save on the automatic a/c and buy something else with the money.

2. I have the Tartan Red/Cloth seats and I really like the mixture of those materials...just a thought if you were interested in a more interesting looking seat.

3. I do not have the sunroof and I ike it without, plus with my auto-x helmet on, I have plenty of room. I currently have a loaner MINI with a sunroof (weird paint issue on the roof of my boot that the dealer is fixing) and it's nice, but I'm happier without it. Just me

4. Is there a difference in the auto AC between '02's and '05's? I have an '05 with auto climate control and I find that it works very well. i never have to fuss with it and enjoy it alot

A MINI (with a white top) looks better without a sunroof anyway! IMO.
