Smashed Jars of Cooking Oil

Today the owner of the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort (at US129 + NC28) approached us and said that someone had been dumping jars of oil on the dragon (3-4 places) leaving a shard filled slick behind. He said that one MINI apparently got this lunatic's license plate -- but he doesn't know whom.

If you are on here, please send the license number to Brad at dealsgap.com and he will pass it along to the TN authorities.

We did see the slicks as we left today -- fortunately all on the NC bound side. One had a police car lit up next to it directing people around. Absurd.

I saw that oil! I wasn't sure what it was, but I'm glad I slowed down. It got all up the side of Charlie too

On our way out, we also saw this oil slick and were told the same story that someone had the license plate number of the person doing this.

I'm sure this info will get passed to the proper authorities asap.

The news of the oil was on the RoadsterChat board as well. RC has some people in the area....they are pretty much upset about this occurance. So, it was locals doing this? That could have been murder.... if people hadn't been alert.

About 7:30 AM Friday morning 4 of us were at Deals Gap giving a couple cars and a truck some distance before we took off for the over-look. As we made our run we saw the glass and oil that had just been thrown on the road, but we can’t identify who did it.

At the over-look one of the road crews was coming by and we flagged them down and explained what we saw. They got to work on the spots immediately picking up the glass and sanding the spots. There were 5 in all.

The person or persons know the road because the oil/glass was at very high speed turns only, not just at random droppings.

On my way out, I saw State Troopers on bikes looking over one of the oil slicks that had oil dry on it. Hope they catch the git who did this!

When they find out who did this, they need to find out the average number of people traveling the Dragon on a weekend, and charge them with that many counts of attempted murder!!!

I got cought in a slick (not certain if it was one of the intentional ones). It was like I hit a patch of black ice, and slid well over the double yellow. Luckily, no one was coming, and I regained control almost immediately. Still scared the poop out of me!

My friend (Jeff) and I were making a Sunday morning Dragon run between 7:30 and 8, and Jeff actually caught this guy in the act. They passed ech other going in opposite directions, and the guy (in a white Ford dually) had his arm out the window with a bottle in it when Jeff crossed him. Jeff doubled back, and the guy slowed down and waved him by - and Jeff made sure to get the plate. When Jeff pulled over to turn back around, the guy slowed down, pulled alongside, and had the NERVE to say something along the lines of "Be careful, there's some oil on the road. I drove thru some and it spashed up onto the side of my truck." Jeff called it in to the police and they said they'd run the plate and pay the guy a visit. Not sure if Jeff's eyewitness account is enough to prosecute on, but at the minimum, I hope it scares the guy enough that the oil slicks come to a halt.
It was a bad feeling driving through a fresh pond of oil littered with broken glass while making a tight turn in an MCS - I hate to think what it would be like on a bike!
