why im really not thrilled with my new 05 MCS...

Just me ranting... My previous car was an 02 GTI 1.8t (for comparison)

No automatic windows up feature.

the windows roll down sometimes when my keys are in my pocket.

ugly washer fluid level indicator on the right column stalk.

no easy/cheap/unobtrusive bike carrier

that annoying seatbelt chime!!! ARGH!!!

PLASTIC EVRYWHERE!!!! Inside and OUT!!!!

Cheaper feel than my VW. Much more $$$ too!!

Fit and finish very lack-luster. (see 2 aforementioned reasons)

Controls laid out awkwardly. (I hate that retarded temperature control ****)

Uncomfortable for everyday driving but maybe I'm just getting old.

Expensive, especially when you compare it to similar 3-doors. $1100 for leather?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

A lot of unused storage capability in the cockpit.

Loud interior while driving. 10 fold with the windows open.

Hmmm... I think that about sums it up for this overpriced kitsch-car.

There are too many reasons as to why I bought it, but I would have reconsidered having known these problems beforehand.

a 20 minute test drive really isn't a good "test" to see how much you'll enjoying living with it after a while.

Indeed I've had my MINI for almost a year now and love it more and more. Thats the reason for the new MCS on its way to me.

OK, if you want to get "flammed" I think you have come to the wrong place

Your post appears "suspect" and smells troll big time....

But I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I am not too sure what is the objective of your post but then again if you want to make a "raise", this thread will be locked in no time

Did you test drive this car? Did you spent enough time in it to notice all the "Quirks" that annoy you so much?

Please post a pic of you car. Otherwise it is hard to believe the genuiness of this thread

And like others say.... If you love your VW Golf.....er GTI or whatever, sell the MINI and get the VW before the current model gets discontinued.

I can see your points, but you are missing what this car is. It is a driver's enthusiast car. One, it isn't meant to be quite. I have a JCW and it is louder than an MCS, but it sounds soooooo sweet winding out the supercharger and listening to the exhaust. The same reason that someone doesn't want a quiet Ferrari. In fact someone on this board has a Ferrari 360 and they love the sound of their MCS way more than their 360. The interior is quarky, it wasn't meant to be a fighter cockpit style interior. If you wanted that you needed to stick with the VW or get an excellent laid out Japanese car. I personally don't feel the interior is cheap looking, but that is my opinion. You do pay a premium for this, but in my opinion the cost is in the feel and the driving experience. You can't touch it at this price range. It is so engaging of all of the senses. Additionally the quality is quite well. With an '05, I doubt you will see any problems

You asked for it... My $0.02 follows:
No automatic windows up feature.
GBMINI's auto-up circuit solves this problem.
ugly washer fluid level indicator on the right column stalk.
You should have ordered an 05 earlier -- it doesn't exist on 05's built before January.
that annoying seatbelt chime!!! ARGH!!!
If you used the seatbelt, it wouldn't have to annoy you.
PLASTIC EVRYWHERE!!!! Inside and OUT!!!!
What car isn't plastic everywhere? Admittedly, VW/Audi uses high quality materials.
Cheaper feel than my VW. Much more $$ too!!
Yes, but you have to admit it out handles your VW, right?
Fit and finish very lack-luster. (see 2 aforementioned reasons)
Just consider it part of the "British charm"
Controls laid out awkwardly. (I hate that retarded temperature control ****)
See previous comment.
Uncomfortable for everyday driving but maybe I'm just getting old.
That must be it
Expensive, especially when you compare it to similar 3-doors.
Who bases their purchase on the # of doors? Porsche's only have two doors - but they're worth the price.
A lot of unused storage capability in the cockpit.
Well use it.
Loud interior while driving. 10 fold with the windows open.
If you got a convertible, that would have been part of the car's charm.

Seriously, sorry to hear that you don't absolutely love the car. You shouldn't have any problem finding a good home for it if you really are unhappy.

I don't agree with you, but aside from that, since that's not the point, I just don't get your griping on the board since you only have yourself to blame. Short test drive or not you had plenty of options to sit in and see Minis at dealerships and likely could have hung out with current owners for more first hand driving experience too. As for features, you can download the manual and look at that - and even if you don't want to bother with that you can pretty much read about everything on the forums. So you could have "known these problems beforehand" if you tried at all.

plastic on the out side. i found it very little, except for the the black trim on the fenders. i found the outside of the car very strong and sturdy, compared to my last car.. accord. the mini to me and this is jut my opinion is a much better built car.. ie honda. but thats the way i feel. and yes the road noise is loud, but i like it.

Vw ?

I would disagree with the fit and finish point. I have two VWs, paint sucks, interior parts suck, performance suck big time. When my daughters jetta sleeps at night it dreams of being a mini.

The performance pedigree of the Mini Cooper doesn't appeal to all...just real gear heads like me....

Go buy a 1980 Cadillac Fleetwood or an used Lexus. Those are very silent, sleepy highway cruisers. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

he's just mad because he doesn't want to wear his seat belt and the MINI likes to nag him about it.

liaudio, I think you need to spend sometime on a finely crafted GM vehicle to experience first hand what "cheap build" and "cheap materials" really look and feel like!

Go and spend sometime inside the "world class" cabin of a Chevy Trailblazer.

Okay now if you had said the GTI 1.8T compels me to speed I might have had to agree with you. My daughter has one and it goes like a bat out of hades! However, your comment about PLASTIC??!?? The GTI has just as much plastic in the interior. Check the door wells.

You have way more room in the MCS back seat. And you are correct, the new GTI is just plain ugly.

he only thing the GTI has that a MINI doesn't that I wish it had? The really cool pop in/pop out cup holder. Aesthetics man, aesthetics. If you're going to compare, notice the real differences next time!

Obviously this MINI is not meant for you.

What are the specs on your car? I might be interested in picking up a second one - especially if it's low mileage and unwanted.

Post some pics and info and perhaps we can help you out of the mistake you've made.

A friend of mine owns an R32. It seems to me that every time you look at it, something new has broken. Now, dont get me wrong, VWs are nice cars, but they are not durable. In my Mini driving experience, hardly anything went wrong (besides any normal breaks that are commonplace on any car). The mini is not built cheeply. The plastic trim works for it, and thats what counts. If you have a problem with the Mini, you shouldnt have gotten one. Plain and simple. You just arent a driving enthusiast.

ok. all valid rebuttals, (i suppose.) but for close to $30k am I wrong for being unhappy?

They could have made this car a ton better. I still have the GTI and alternate days with it and the MCS. There is nothing in the GTI that makes me think while in it, "Gee, I wish they had put the window switches right under the radio!" or, "I sure wish I had to pull the handle twice to get out!" But then in the Mini, I constantly think about how much better it could be.

I don't know, maybe I'm just much more used to the VW than my 2 month old Mini. (which is scheduled to go in for warranteed repairs tomorrow.)

The Mini S handles awesome, is fast, and looks gorgeous. Other than that... not much.

Oh, and see the first line of the first post on this thread.

and by the "plastic" comment. I know the VW and most other new cars are filled to the brim with plastic pieces, but why does the mini feel cheaper? I cant quantify or qualify this analysis, but it just "feels" sub-par.

I used to work on automotive interiors for a living. I do know a think or two about quality., and "yes", GM's are disgusting. Its no wonder they only have like 20% of the american automotive marketplace. (didn't it used to be closer to 70%?) The Z06's are pretty f'ing nice though.
