Oh Feces!

Yesterday my friends bike came out of my roof rack , fortunately while pulling into a gas station and not at 70 mph on the highway, and caused about $1000 damage to the roof . I could have used that money for a GRS Intercooler .

So now I am heading to the Dragon with some new modifications to my roof. They can not fix it in time for the Dragon.

Oh well......I'm glad I vented that out of my system:smile:

what a range of emotions......I'm cool

Little tip for roof racks and bikes. If you have two bikes on the rack make sure they are close enought so that if one breaks free it runs into the other bike. I have on a few ocasions had my old Yak rack fail and each time I had another bike catch it before it fell to the road or came through the roof.

Time to invest in the Sport Link system... far superior option, IMO. Expensive, but in this case you could have paid for it two times over.

But I do feel for ya, SpiderX... that really sucks!

Thanks for the advice. I have had all kinds of racks, top and back, Yakima, Thule etc. I have driven under overhangs and knocked bikes and kayaks off but this was weird, the fork mount did not come unlatched the fork just worked its way out. In all my years with all my bikes I have never had this happen. This is about a 20 year old state of the art CIOC with a chrome-moly fork and the dropouts are smooth. There was nothing for the fork mount to grab like a modern fork. I knew this when I put it on, I just didn't think that it could work its way free. Oh well it's only money, easy come............woah....my money does not come easy it still sucks.

Sorry to hear that. Cheer up!

I once had a front bike wheel come off my roof rack at about 75mph. I watched it slowly roll down the back window, off the trunk lid and then bounce off the bumper of the Mustang behind me.

My insurance company wasn't too happy with me....but my Mavic wheel was OK

Ew. Well, the one consolation, as noted, was that it did not happen on a motorway so others were not involved. But still...ugh. So sorry.

I can't use the sport link. I have a carbon fiber top tube.

Ahh... bummer, man. The sport link system such a good design too... but yeah I wouldn't want to risk harming a carbon fiber tube either.
