WTB: Head for S, stock or modded, let my know what you have....
Well, today after I stopped to pick up my mail, I started my car, and it was running on only three cylenders! One of the spark plugs had popped out, and the threads on the head aren't looking too good. I did get it back together, but I don't trust it. So I figure I'm living on borrowed time.
My options are:
1) Pay the labor to get the head removed and helicoiled. this is probalby the cheapest, but if I'm gonna spend what that will cost, I might as well see what I can do for a bit more money.
2) Find something used I can use. I looked for performance heads in the marketplace, but didn't see any. Didn't see any stock ones either.
3) Get a new one from Mini. Ouch!!!!!
4) Get a performance head. What the hell, the labor is going to be a lot anyway. Depends on the quotes I get for doing the head work, and what the delta will be.
I'm not sure why this happened, but some of the other plugs were loose as well, but just needed snugging. I did just spend two days on the track bumping up against the rev limiter, so I do drive the car hard. The other pain is that I just put an Alta TMIC on the car, and I have to remove it to do any plug work!
Any input would be greatly appreciated, as would a ported and polished head just sitting aroung for a few hundred $!!!!!
Matt

ONe of you options is https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...287#post534287which is what I did. Because i bought the ENdyn kit from another NAM member, I have my 05 head, blower, runners, and IT Man sitting in my garage. I haven't decided if I am parting it all or selling as a unit.

Sharing some prices.....
So, to have the head removed, and helicoiled $1,035 plus tax. The helicoil and labor for it is only $140......
New head (without labor) is about $850. (From classic auto campus)
New JCW head (without labor) is about $3000! Yikes! (From Classic Auto Campus as well).
A&E in the bay area is evaluating the job now, they say they may be able to fix it without taking the head off. don't know what it will cost.
Used heads are $300 to $500 (at least what I've seen on eBay and NAM).
FYI.......
