Residue stained paint

The wiper that is on the boot has some sort of residue such as grease that over the past couple of months has drained from the wiper down to the paint and it has kinda stained it, has anybody else ever noticed this?

Yes, it's not uncommon.

You can easily get that off with a quick detailer if you have a good coat of sealant or wax already, but if it has stained the paint you need to use a cleaner wax or solvent such as a tar remover to clean it off. Coating well with a quality paint protection will allow it to be cleaned of ealier in the future.

That stuff, if your car is fairly new, is probably Cosmoline, a sticky, waxy substance they spray on the car at the factory to protect it during shipping. It is removed upon landing in the US, but bits of it will remain.

I've heard that WD40 will help remove it but never fear... there is a limited amount of this stuff on your car... eventually it will all come off and this dripping will stop.

Does anyone know if this stuff ever stops leaking?

I thought it was the read washer jet leaking. I took it to my dealer and they replaced some bushings and then it stopped. But today is was REALLY hot outside and it started again... is this stuff really cosmoline?

Anyone have this happen to them? Did it ever go away?

There is a limited quanity of this stuff on the car. It is sprayed on to protect the paint in shipping and is removed w/ hot water when the car lands in the US.

It is wax based, so the good warm day probably just melted enough to start weeping again.

ok great, thanks. I will wash it today and see what happens. If it doesn't stop within a month, then I will take it to the dealer. I really doubt its the rear washer jet leaking... but we will find out soon enough i guess lol.

It happened again today. This time I discovered where its coming from. Its not cosmoline. Its the rear windshield washer jet thats laking... its dribbling down and staining the bonnet. I took it to my dealer and noticed that almost every mini there has the same issue. MiniUSA is aware of the problem I am sure...

They need to fix it ASAP!
