REME May 1st Marin Headlands Meetup and Run

We will meet in the Burger King parking lot at 220 Alameda Del Prado, Novato, at 10am. Come early if you want to socialize. We will leave promptly at 10:30am.

After a short and scenic drive, we will stop at the Point Bonita Light House, Marin Headlands Visitor's Center and a tour of the Nike base. This stop will be for approximately 2 hours to allow for lunch, hiking, and the tour. Bring a sack lunch, there is no food available. After the tour, we will continue our scenic route ending in Novato at around 4:15pm.

Included in our trip will be a parade lap through Sausalito, a trip to Mount Tamalpias, a walk to the Bonita Light House, the Bunker Road 1-way tunnel, and maybe the Samuel P. Taylor State Park, and ending at a micro brewery in Novato.

Brunch or Picnic?

PetaMINI has suggested eating brunch at a great restaurant in Sausalito before heading to the Headlands. The rest of the run would stay essentially unchanged.

If you think its a good idea or a poor one, let us know. We have a poll up and running until Wednesday, April 27th. See http://minicooper.meetup.com/2/poll/ and cast your preference.

Hey guys, I hope you know that on a Sunday you're bound to run into a fair share of traffic.

Dunno if I can make it yet but I hope so for at least part of it

Participants coming from the Sacramento area...

Here's the scoop on the REME Run to Marin Headlands next weekend (May 1st).

Those of us in the greater Sacramento area will be meeting up at the Jack In The Box/Chevron in Dixon at 8:30 AM to convoy down to Novato to meet up with the REME folks.

We will be taking Hiway 37 out of Fairfield, and going around the Bay and into Marin County. It's a nice non-freeway route, and you avoid bridge tolls!

We were down in that area recently on a Sunday. There was not a lot of traffic on all of the FUN roads...

Will you all still be at the Burger King in Novato at 10AM to meet the rest of us? Several of us are coming over from the Sacramento area.

Is the restaurant Scoma's? YUMMY!

We will still meet at Burger King.... its just so easy to find. The restaurant that PetaMINI (Rawls) suggested was the Bayside Cafe. They serve breakfast and lunch. It's right at the exit to Sausalito. Get off the fwy as we have planned, go under the fwy and straight across the next intersection toward the yacht club (this intersection is where you turn to go into Sausalito).

The restaurant is immediately across the intersection on the left. You go just past and turn left. There is a parking lot to the left of this road in front of the place or, if there are no spaces, more parking is available a short distance down the road.

There is still time to vote at our poll at http://minicooper.meetup.com/2/poll/

Man, I am bummed - I'm on vacation right now and about 1/4 mile from your meeting place. Oh well, I'm leaving for home tomorrow evening.

Poll about brunch is still up and I keep changing my vote, I just can't decide - picnic seems like fun but I don't know what its like at the Visitor's center (or what the parking is like, I am thoroughly paranoid about parking as I have narrowly saved the Mini from bad parkers/dings a few times already).

Sounds like a cool run from looking at the map on the website. This will be my second run with the club. I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes to drive their mini around.

Well it wasn't exactly a mandate, but what recently has been. I extended the length of the poll by an entire day hoping to have a wider difference, but I think the majority of us would be happy with either scenario. The majority of the votes go to having the run as planned with a picnic at or near the visitor's center before tours of Point Bonita Light House and the Nike Missile site. The tours start at 12:30, so that will give us about 30 minutes to eat before the tours.

Sunday's forecast is "Mostly Cloudy with a slight chance of showers". If the forecast doesn't get significantly worse I think our picnic idea will be fine. If the forecast changes dramatically by Saturday and rain (not drizzles or partial showers) is eminent, then I think we should modify the route for the brunch option. Check back here Saturday evening before making those lunches.

How was the run? I hope it didn't get rained out - I left for my drive back home at 3:00am and it was POURING rain until I got into Los Angeles. I hope that I get to hoop up with you guys next time I'm up there.

Actually the run is tomorrow. The weather was beautiful all day here today, with a chance of showers tonight. Tomorrow's forecast is partly cloudy with a chance of showers.... I'll let you know about the run tomorrow night.

We were blessed with an absolutely beautiful day for driving and a picnic!

Thank you to all who came to share the day with us. Although we were optimistic with planning the run and we were only able to complete about 60% of everything we planned, the trip was wonderful (necessitating another trip to the area). Our day ended up with a shared meal, drink and conversation at Moylans in Novato.

Again, thank you to all who joined us for the run, conversation, and dinner.
