We have a '04 MC with the stock 15" wheels. We were thinking to get either the 16" spoked wheels from MINI or the Kosei F1's. We are quite happy with the ride/handling tradeoff with the 15" Continentals but want a more custom look.

1. The selection of 195/55-16 tires is very limited. The fellow at the tire thought 205/50-16 would balloon out and look funny on a 6.5" rim. Any experience?
2. Can we go from 15" to 16" rims and keep the ride quality? I was thinking to go from a Continental (grand touring) with the 15 to something like a BFG traction T/A, perhaps in the T (standard touring) version for the 16.
3. Any other suggestions for tires. Again we like the Continentals, but no selection in 16"

I agree and am in the same dilemma. I don't know enough about the specs for wheels/tires to make a choice! I do like the look of a larger wheel and a smaller tire (as seem from the side) ( Is that a "lower profile") What effect does it have on the ride/handling as you go from 15" to 16" ?

 

I've ordered my MC with the standard 15 in. tires, and plan to go to 16 inch rims & 205/50/16 almost immediately. From research I've done and personal experience with my other car (Audi TT & A4) a High Perf. All Season might be what you're looking for. . . the Pirelli PZero Nero or the Conti Extreme Contact might fit the bill - I'd check with Alex @ Tire Rack.
