Am I a bit over the top?

I asked my dealer not to detail the car, and to leave the plastic wrap on it, so that I could peel it off and be sure that the dealer didnt leave swirl marks all over the Hyper Blue.

are you planning on driving the car outside or just keeping it in the garage and looking at it. and did you figure out how you are going to get it home from the dealer. hahaha. i was like that about mine (not that bad). but it wears off after awhile (alittle bit anyway). oh wait, no it doesnt.

Maybe just a little. I told my dealer that they were to wash it by hand and absolutely not put any of their greasy tire dressing all over the tires, dash, etc. and not to put a buffer to it either - no need to wax fresh paint until it has a chance to "dry".

washing...

Because MINI paint goes through an oven at the factory (unlike paint shot on with a paint gun at a body shop) you do not have to wait to wax it. In fact, you should clay bar it and put a coat of wax on right away. Why clay bar if it is brand new? Because, microscopic rail dust, brake dust, contamination, etc. have already imbedded into the finish just from the manufacture and transportation process. Clay then wax will protect that brand new finish.

As far as letting the dealership wash your car, it's not the soap or the technique that scares me, but what's in that rag they'll use. You have no control over little bits and particles that may be in their wash rag.

My MINI dealership practically begged me to let them wash it after they had it for a while ordering parts. I told them I could handle pollen, but not the thought of what's in their wash rag. Forget it!
