I've just recently ordered an 03 MCS (IB/W) with the works, but I'm hesitant on one dealer installed option. It's a transparent plastic overlay on the leading edge of the bonnet and front fenders called Autobahnd (sp?). It costs $695 and is warranteed for 3 years. It supposed to help with paint chips.

Comments ???

I have it and live in Florida. If I lived up north I would
definitely want it. I had it on my first Cooper and I have
it on the S. $695............negotiate.

I'd be nice to see something like this for the windshield!

Yeah, I ordered my 03 MCS from Peabody. They do the install, but $695 seems a bit steep.

I was just wondering if paint chips are a real problem (especially here in the northeast). I'm planning on parking my MCS during the winter anyway.

Be thankful it's an option. Herb Chambers tries to shove it down your throat. I had to resort to thinly veiled threats in order to keep it off of my car.

Pass on the dealer applied stuff. I had mine done by a local tint/clear bra shop for $400 guaranteed for the life of the car. (or as long as I own it. and they do stand behind that) I had an 18" bra done on the bonnet, the entire front bumper, and a swath on the top edge of the back bumper up to under the hatch. I think you can get the product installed a lot cheaper and with a better guarantee. Shop around.
I like it and it has prevented stone damage on other cars for years. They look brand new when I sell/trade them.

Scott,

Do you live in the Boston Area? Where did you have your work done?
