Walkie-Talkies?

Did a search but could not find anything so here goes...

Does anyone have a recommendation on walkie-talkies you use while in caravan? I have heard that a subchannel is a good thing to have. Any advice on makes/models? Cost?

Thanks!

Motorola talkabouts work great. I got a set at Costo of 2 T5000 w/charger and it came with 2 T4500 for like $40 $50. The T4500s are for your kids as they don't have sub-channels. The T5000, as well as my older ones - one T5950 and one T5920, all have sub-channels. Someone mentioned to buy only a T5XXX or higher but I talked to Motorola and was told the only difference between the T5000, T5920, and T5950 are the features on them. Other than that they all have UP TO 5 mile range.

I have a Cobra FRS/GMRS that has a 6 mile plus range, but not on the channel we broadcast on. We use the FRS on 7/21 good for 2 miles in open area. Places like the Dragon it may only be good around the next bend. But that's not the radios fault, it's the area.

Basically they're all the same. As long as you get the 5 mile range (sub channel) models. Some have a few more bells and whistles but that's about it. I've used several brands and can't tell any real difference. I bought my pair from Radio Shack. They had a special, $19.95 for the pair. They work fine. Bottom line, find the best deal (price) you can and don't worry about the brand name.

I have the exact same ones, the smaller set are blue and the larger set are black? They work great! That's what my wife and I were using when we brought the MINI home.

That's them . Larger ones are rechargable smaller ones take batteries. If I run across some kids at AMVIV I'll give them the smaller ones, if anyone has kids that want them let me know.
