Mini iPod adapter in 05 MCS with Navigation?

I was hoping someone could confirm if the Mini iPod adapter PN 65 11 0 392 139 will work with an 05 MCS with navigation.

Thanks much in advance!

PS: I would appreciate any input if anyone has done the install themselves and has any nav specific, or otherwise, tips

From everything my Mini dealer has told me it will. I have a 05 that will be here in about a week with a NAV and there installing a iPod adapter and an Aux Port. The iPod will not work with a CD changer though.

LiquidYellow, can you keep us posted on how that goes? My MINI dealer said they could not install an iPod adaptor or an aux input because of my nav system.

iPod adapter with HK

I wanted the iPod adapter, but my dealer told me it's not compatible with the Harman Kardon system. Is that true?

My car will have the NAV and Harman Kardon. I should have it in about a week or two, I'll let you all know how it goes. Also if the CD changer works with the Harmon Kardon, from what I understand there should be no reason the iPod adapter won't.

Well just check online to see were my Mini is and it is at the distribution center and the estimated delivery date is 2/23/05, thats WEDNESDAY!!
Though they will have to install the body kit and the iPod and Aux ports. So hopefully I'll have an answer for you all next week.

Well they told me they were installing the iPod adapter and the AUX port today, so I haven't gotten a call saying it didn't work. I'll pick it up Friday and will report back. By the way heres a link to some pics of my car.

Thanks, it will alleviate our worries since we have the adapter already

Beautiful car! Digging the rear fog instead of the black mesh they put in there when they moved the reverse light :P

Your car is GREAT! Do you miss the center speedo to have the NAV system? and was the NAV done at the factory or the dealership?

Well I'm having tons of fun with my new MINI. I have not yet been able to try out the iPod adapter, though it is installed. The AUX port works great though. I haven't yet bought a new iPod to hook up to the iPod adapter, though I'm hoping to borrow a friends this week and try it out. Here is some pics new pics I took today.

That's factory Nav. I've yet to hear of a dealership that is willing to even try and retrofit the MINI Nav system, and that's the only nav system designed for that center location in a MINI.

I wish I could see how they wired the iPod adaptor so I could do it myself, when I talked to my dealer they said they couldn't do it.

Last I heard, Nav wasn't an issue, but if you had the CD changer that could be an issue...

Supposed to work with NAV in '03

the folks at Classic told me it was in fact compatible with NAV on my '03 MCS. Should be here tomorrow and once installed i'll post my findings. I've not seen a posting by someone that actually has the adapter installed with NAV so i hope i'm not duplicating efforts. It looks from the installation instructions that i will still be able to use the AUX input too!

I know this is a little off topic since my MCS is an '03 instead of on '05, but here are my results. After installing the MINI/iPod adapter, it all works great! Still have my AUX input too!! I did run into one problem that i have not seen mentioned here. It is, apparently, possible to have too many playlists, i guess it freaks the adapter out. I had quite a few playlists, so i deleted all but about 4 that i considered crucial and the MINI1-5 playlists. Worked like a charm. I have no idea what the maximum amout of playlists is, but i'll be pushing that envelope soon.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I have a question tho, what if you do not use playlists? Can I just access a full library of music on the ipod without putting them into playlists?

When you select "CD 6" on your head unit, it plays all songs on your ipod, regardless of what playlist they are in. You don't actually create a MINI6 playlist though, just MINI1 thru MINI5. I would imagine it would work in the same way a cd changer would that only has a disk in slot 6.

Hmm, maybe I am being dense, but if I had no playlists and just 20 gigs of songs will I be able to just play them?

Dense...no! Thick...maybe! Just kidding ;^) It is a wee bit confusing until you've got the thing installed and working. I believe that if you have no playlists, it should still play all songs on your iPod when you select Disk 6 on the HU. And you could either play them in order or random. I went ahead and made the 5 playlists and just used them to seperate the music...easy/rock/dance/newage/etc. That way i can play all my songs in random or just the ones i'm in the mood for!

Bottom line, i'm pretty sure your idea will work!

Seems like it should work, not really sure why it wouldn't.
