M7 Ultimate Grille Install Question

Who has installed one of these? Do you have to take the bumper covers off?

Yes you do. Then pop off the old grill. Place the M7 grill up near flush with opening towards the front. Mark off the three areas (or was that four? can't remember) where the screws would hold the grill to the facia with a shapie. Drill holes and attach Simple

I also put mine flush with the bumper (also had to drill holes) but I left the old grill on. I have the silver Ultimate grill, so you can't see the old black one behind it.

I installed one a little over a year ago... I'll be getting a pair of the rear ones soon also. Very durable, and still looks sharp...

There's some more info in this thread also:

Thanks, guys. I found this on the other thread, thanks to Tony for the link:

I got both the front and rear silver M7 grills along with a retrofit chrome S upper grille for my Red MINI S. So it will either look OK or high pimp when it's done, I am not sure which!

before and after

yes can you please do something like a before and after thing with this?? I kinda want to make the front of my car more aggressive looking, and have a more durable grill than plastic! Is there any other benefits besides this?? I'm thinking no.

Thanks

(sssshhhh.... I'm in school. hey I have freetime I'll use it! )

Well, since the the stock plastic grill is not open on the sides like the Ultimate Grill, I see 2 benefits:

I like to see more goodies, like those watches that show the gears, etc... This grill will expose more cool stuff...

And, I would think, there should be more flow through...

Oh, and a third thing, for me, is that I use that open space for a Hornet XP3 which needs to be aimed at the road. With the stock grill, given that the sides are blocked, I couldn't use this device...

On the stock grille, the left and right sides, about 4 or so inches, are blocked. In the photo of mine above, that plumbing on the far right is not visible on the stock unit. And that is where I mounted that XP3 unit, so it worked-out great...

front/rear grill

I installed the front/rear m7 grill and also the m7 c.f front splitter in less than 2 hours. It is easier with the front bumper off. The front bumper comes off very easily. The rear looks awesome because you can cut off the heat shield because the grill is vented and you can see the dual chromed cans now Very nice finish to the m7 team.

Would you mind elaborating on your "rear" grill install and the part regarding "cut off heat shield"? Thanks:smile:

Just spoke with Peter... I'm getting mine before you With your garage, I'm sure you will have them installed before me though . He said that he's working on the front top and middle grilles also!!! Heck, Peter, while you're at it, matching ones for the two cowl vents would be desirable as well .

The heat shield doesn't need to get cut, as I understand it... For aesthetic purposes, one might want to do so, or simply paint it black...

I will trim the heat shield, especially considering my center exhaust. And I'm already drawing-up some type of splitter that can ramp-up air, thus pushing down the back-end... the air flow will now have an exit via the grilles...

Recently married... wife doesn't work... the money is not what it once was, but I knew that from the get-go .

If Randy Webb gets the new version of his camber plates done in the next couple of days, they will be installed by this weekend!!! Maybe even this Friday when he flies-in to the Bay Area... I have this week off of work, so Friday would be perfect.
