WTB: Box Stock MC --- no BS & no crazy prices

Hello to all,
I am looking for a 2002 MC, what I'm looking for is a service vehicle for my company. What better than a car that EVERYONE looks at?
Problem I'm having is everyone thinks their car is "worth" so much in addition to all the upgrades they put on the car. Bad news; the car is only "worth" as much as someone is willing to pay and the little extras everyone bolts on...can't be factored into the price unless somoene really wants those parts.
This comes from a guy that has bought/sold Harleys for years, the market is a bit inflated but goodies...are a non pricing issue.
So, with all the BS out of the way; go to Kelly BB, NADA and Edmunds, take the trade in value and hit me with your best price. Not looking for anything fancy (that's why no MCS) just a nice car with good fuel mileage at a good price.
Thanks to all

What drives the market on ANYTHING is what someone is willing to pay. Whether it be a bottle of water or a 550 Barchetta Ferrari. One thing so wonderful about a MINI (and a Harley - including my 2KFLSTF) is that they are so customizable. Most people will do SOMETHING to their MINI, and would want something of a return for the money spent. If I sold Miss MINI or Ole Yeller, I realize that I may loose some money, but I won't GIVE either of them away.

Your best bet would maybe to simply buy a base 2005 with nothing on it. Good luck with your quest.

But then again, maybe someone here on NAM may prove me wrong.

And you have an interesting siggy. She's sweet.

One man's custom is another man's eyesore

Just like Harleys...some customs are the owners' expression. Perhaps no one likes my paint on my Road King and have had a few comments on the painting of my wheel lips on my MINI.
The only thing is you can't expect to "charge" the premium price unless someone is looking for exactly your taste in customization.
As far as an 05 goes, I'm sure I can find someone out there that has a stock MC that is ready to trade up and doesn't want to get hit by the trade in cost.
Just a feeler...so if I don't find anything, there is always some other time.

Ok...I give up

Ok, I guess I give up, I've had so many PMs and such with such crazy pricing...
A STOCK MC 2002 with normal mileage is around $12k trade in price (or less at auction) I thought "maybe" someone that was looking to get out from under a car or get rid of something for around what trade price would be would like to see someone from NAM get the deal instead of the dealer marking the car up $2500 after they trade it in.
I've been getting anywhere from $15 to $21k for a '02 MC not even MCS!..most are above dealer retail pricing. People, dealers get the mark up due to the fact they service the vehicle, add warranty if the warranty is over and bring the car up to saleable standards. Again, it's only "worth" what someone else will pay comes back into play.
Thanks for the input, guess I'll just send my friend to the auction and get one there since I'm not much concerned with color or options.
By the way...I've got a '03 MCS w/8k on the odo, all kinds of trick options 6k in wheels and tires...looking to get $35k if anyone is interested...it's a steal...less than I've got in it...any takers....ok, didn't think so...now you see what I mean...

Biker Guy-

You're numbers are a little off. I'm a buyer for the largest US used car group. The mini I have for sale happens to be my own personal car that I purchased from auction. Mini's at sales in most areas perform at or just below what they sold for new, if in good condition and miles ( I know its hard to believe). Most of this is due to the limited availability and wait times associated with buying a new one. KBB doesn't have a clue in terms of price, its the biggest public misconception. And to expect someone to sell at trade in price when they are getting nothing in return ( a deal on another car) is a stretch.

Neverless- I whish you the best of luck finding your new car. I can't blame anyone for looking for a deal, I'd do the same thing.

Just a follow-up

I've just logged onto the Manheim Auto Auction web site, which is the country's largest auction firm. The average Price for an 02 Cooper with average miles is $15,596. Hopefully this will help some others who are selling their rides since some are priced out of the park.

I'd check Ebay. We just bought a 2003 Cooper for at least $2K less than it would have sold for locally. 90% of the MINIs on Ebay are overpriced, 95% of them don't meet reserve (check the completed listings... a whoooole lotta red and not much green) but if you have a flexible time frame and keep checking back, you should be able to find something that suits your needs.
