I searched for this in the forum. I promise. Anyway ... the tabs at either end of part 54347364806 the center interior trim piece that covers the sunroof portion of the top's motor broke off and the piece fell into the car. Looks fairly easily replaced I just have to buy a new piece. Anyone having this issue?
I have a new one ordered. Sadly it isn't the clips that have failed but at the very tips on the f57, there is a small screw that holds each end in place. The small tab has failed on both ends and is irreparable. I mean maybe I could possibly try to glue the little tabs back on but it looks like a fools errand will only break again. I ordred a replacement for about $200 including shipping. Should be here soon. Easy snap in and fasten.
What I do need though is the velvety tape that is used to provide "lubrication" so to speak between the plastic parts as they slide by each other. If anyone knows where I can find that velvety tape I'd appreciate it.
Start with the roof completely up. Make sure the soundproofing is in place and carefully allign the little nipples to their holes and press into place, you'll have to mind how the edges interface with the bits that already in place. It really isn't difficult.
Then you'll need to open the roof partially so that the place where the retaining screw goes is accessible. You'll see. Put a tiny dab of loc-tite on the threads and then line-up the hole with the clip-nut on the trim piece and have at it. When I moved to the other side, the trim piece had dropped down and I had to close the roof again in order to get the fabric out of the way. I snapped the trim back in place and then held it in place as I used the fob to open the roof partially and then installed the other screw. That's it. Easy peasy.
Here is the offending bit. Right is the old piece. If you are handy with glue or friendly plastic maybe you could repair?
