Added another JCW to the group - R60

Just picked up a '15 R60 JCW this weekend. On way home got the 2C57 code 😒 I've read this code can be caused by the diverter valve being bad, wastegate actuator, etc.

Pulled it apart today to investigate. Intake tube was broken at PCV connection, but I don't think that has anything to do with it just something that needs replaced. I removed the diverter valve and I don't know what to look for so just ordered a Turbosmart replacement. We run it on our R58 JCW and it sounds good.

Tested wastegate actuator movement with a vacuum pump next. Watched the movement and it doesn't fully close wastegate until 15 psi of vacuum. The locknut was about an inch from the wastegate so clearly I have found the issue and reason for lack of boost.

My question is, at what psi of vacuum should the wastegate be fully closed? I've read 5-10 but wanted to make sure before you put it in service mode and get after it.

Thanks in advance!

I think the wastegate test vacuum is ~15". At least, that's what I've seen in a few places for the OEM wastegate. If at 15" the wastegate isn't closed, then that would be the source for your code.

Turbosmart makes an aftermarket replacement wastegate, and makes a comment about the internal spring having influence on the vacuum required for closing. Their wastegate vacuum is ~6".

Actually have one sitting on the bench to install on our R58! Just haven't decided when I want to tackle installing it

Update: wastegate nut was backed off all the way! Now I'm trying to adjust it, at what HG should it start moving? I have it set at 8hg now, but at 15hg the wastegate doesn't seem to be fully open.

OEM wastegate, correct? It should be fully open at zero vacuum, and fully closed at 14-15" vacuum.

Correct, OEM wastegate. OK good I set it to fully close at about 13-14 HG. Nut was completely missing on the closing side of rod, the lock nut on actuator side was spun all the way to rod. This picture was after I spun it several turns. No wonder this car felt slower than crap!🤦🏻‍♂️ I have no idea how previous owner drove it every day and "didn't notice" hahaha

Holy Moly! Glad it was an easy fix. I wonder if they sold it because it started feeling off power...

Nice fine on a rare R60 almost last year JCW, those things are sweet. Glad to find an easy fix.
