R56 jcw caliper to r53 conversion lug bolts question

Hey fellow members ,

I am contemplating on the r56 jcw 4 pot caliper front conversion on to my 2004 r53 .

since my r53 wheel lug bolts are m12x1.5 will I have to purchase m14x1.25 r56 bolts also for the front of my mini when doing the swap? From what I gathered it seems that the r56 had a different bolt size so I am double checking with those that did a swap on an early r53

Are you changing the hub? The hubs were changed to m14 in late 2006.

hey deepgrey, I think this is where my confusion starts . I was Hoping not to touch it as i did not want to have m12 lug bolts in back rims and m14 lug bolts at the front .I was hoping to keep them the same.

All the posts online i read were confusing me as i was not sure if in a prefacelift r53 i( with m12 bolts ) would also have to change the hub in order to accommodate the r56jcw rotors and/or calipers

My guess would be that you don’t need to change the hubs. I would assume it’s the same case as wheels, where the holes can be oversized without issue.

I think this post agrees. Hopefully someone who has done the conversion will chime in. I’ve never had to think about this problem because my car came from the factory with m14 hubs.

no need to change the hubs for the different sizes. I’m running calipers from a 2011 R56s, with SS lines from the r56s, and just picked up new rotors and new pads. I had a stud conversion already done and everything just bolts up. The rotor still can be held in place by the screw, so you can use the smaller lug bolts if needed.

The R56 rotors have 14mm holes so if installing on an R53 with 12mm lug bolts the holes will just be larger than you need, so it doesn't hurt anything.

Do keep in mind you do need the conversion brake lines:

We see many people doing R56 brake conversions but they get the R56 brake lines and they don't fit right.
1. they don't fit the body bracket on the R53
2. you end up twisting the line around to tighten in the caliper.
