Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
I've owned a number of Minis over the past 8 years: R50, R52, R53, R56, R58, R60, R61
All the different motors, various states of POS to hoopty.
The ONLY frigging time I was left on the side of a road, was due to the 2nd Gen grounding strap. Looked fine, but when I went to remove it, it just fell apart.
So, the next time you're under the hood, replace that damn thing with a 1st Gen grounding CABLE. Look at the pic, POS on the left, cable on the right.
What do you mean by fail apart? It's hard to believe such braided cable would simply disintegrate.
Other than surface corrosion I don't see an issue on the picture.
i encountered an error, and my R61 JCW would not start. Initially it perplexed me, then aftwr some research, i happened upon a common issue. The grounding strap. I removed it to start my cleaning the mounts. Once done with that, I inspected the strap. Looked ok, so i started fiddling with it, and it fell apart in my hand
Once i installed the 1st gen cable, reset the codes, she fired right up.
