Stock Problems/IssuesDiscussions related to warranty related issues and repairs, or other problems with the OEM parts and software for MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S(R56), and Cabrio (R57).
Hey guys! So I am at a complete loss, I recently started suffering from the cold start issues with my R56 (N14). A few Google searches brought me to replacing the HPFP. I proceeded with buying a Bosch HPFP from eBay which came out to a good price. Anyway, bought a Uro Parts Pressure hose since the instructions state they are one-time use. I install the pump without issues and now my car isn't starting. So I check my connections and notice that my High pressure hose is leaking from where it connects to the main fuel rail. I go ahead and remove it and retorque to spec (33nm +/-3). Same issue, no matter what I do it keeps on leaking. Just tried today adding some lubricant to the ends and it seems like it got a much better seal but still appears to be leaking, much less of course. I had previously reinstalled my old HPFP to see if it was the pump, but I got the same results, car will not start!
My questions are the following:
1. Will this small leak cause my mini to not start at all?
2. What is the correct procedure to install this fuel line without it leaking? Online repair manual does not state anything about using lubricant but to use a special tool 13 0 220 which sounds rather silly.
3. Has anyone used a Uro Parts high pressure hose?
4. Is there a possibility that this is a bad fuel pump?
Adding some photos, not sure if they will help at all
This is where it leaks. To HPFP Connection looks good
I have heard that the eBay fuel pumps are hit or miss for reliability, regardless the brand name stamped on the side. It is possible you received a dud, but I can't say for sure. If you have a scan tool that will show the fuel rail pressure, you can use that to help troubleshoot. You should see ~70-80 psi with the ignition turned on, then ~700 psi when starting. If either of those values are off, then the car will have a hard time starting.
Show a rail pressure of 1.09 MPa when trying to start the car. Ignition turned on see around 0.98 MPa.
Sounds to me like this is a bad fuel pump then. Even then, what about the fuel lines are those a hit and miss as well? Do I really need to buy the Mini brand just to get it to stop leaking from the main fuel rail?
Yeah, I am still not convinced it is the HPFP. Just put back the old one and seeing similar readings, my old pump was working but was giving me the cold start issues. High pressure line continues to leak, I am sure it is the fuel line, shouldn't have bought Uro. Let me buy Mini OEM and will get back. Old fuel pump, almost identical values, coincidence, don't think so.
