Club door switch repair

Our 2009 Clubman S has a problem with the club door (right rear passenger side) not activating the pressure switch to indicate that the door is closed. I can start the car and drive it, but the interior light stays on until I shut it off, and the side-door alarm goes off every time I start up from a stop.

I can see a plastic switch at the front of the club door that looks like it is the contact switch, but I can’t figure out how to check the connection. I can’t get to it from inside the door, and I’m hesitant to pry it out in case I break any clips. Does this pry out from the outside?
Thanks!

It is quite the procedure to get inside the door at the bottom. However, that trim piece on the outside does just pop off and exposes the screws and guts for that latch. It is possible that something is not latching when the doors are closed.

Thanks! That is a very helpful picture. I’ll see if I can find a suitable screwdriver/prybar to substitute for the “special tool”.

I am a little confused as to why there is a bowden cable to a door switch; seems a bit over-engineered.

It is more than just a switch, it’s the latch that keeps the door from being opened when the front door is closed.
