Just got a 2013 cooper s from the auction and it looks clean but it’s cranking but not starting. Battery was bad so I changed it. It’s giving a few codes. Plan on changing the spark plugs and coils but after that idk if I’m going fuel pump. Need some thoughts P053A [0x053A]

If those are fine, compression test the cylinders and check the timing chain and engine mechanical timing.
I was thinking all of that but I got it started. It was from a Copart auction and apparently the bank repoed a car and had a key made. The key wasn't coded to the car to start it, only to open and lock it. Had to pay 300 to get 2 key fobs programmed to the car.
I'm surprised the key fob allowed the starter to crank the engine, but glad you sorted out the problem.
Yea I was surprised too. The locksmith caught the problem as soon as he plugged it up to see. The bank that repo'ed the car went the cheap route and got a basic programmed key and then the valet key was blank when i checked it.
