R52 06 MCS Convertible no conv power, no ac power, nav sys in mini splash screen
06 MCS Convertible no conv power, no ac power, nav sys in mini splash screen
My wife came home on Friday, closed the top, no issues. She exited the car and locked it up. She got in the car on Saturday and the top won't go down so she calls me over. Not only is the top not doing anything (no sounds, no red light, no sunroof retract), the ac controls are black/blank, and the navigation system is stuck in the Mini splash screen. It is a 2006 (Jan 06) MCS convertible with almost 150k miles on it. It has the Navigation system and the ac controls are the IHKA unit, automatic climate controls. We have had it for over two years now. I had to repair a bad sunroof cable and a lot of oil leaks, but she has been running well for quite a while now. Oh and the harmonic balancer did the usual splitting in half. I verified the rear shelf was in place and the latches were all the way down. I went through and checked all of the fuses. I pulled the fuse holder III in the engine compartment to ensure the fuses underneath were all good. I removed FL3 from the holder to verify it was good with no feedback. I checked F15 in fuse holder II. I checked F01 in fuse holder III. I checked F30 in fuse holder II and FL9 in fuse holder III for the ac power supply. I did a continuity check with the rest of the fuses in place. I did find one bad fuse. It was F41 in fuse holder II for the Park Distance Control. I am not even sure what that is at this point and will check on it later. SO, everything else works on the Mini. I am stumped and would like assistance in trying to resolve this multi-issue that all occurred at the same time. My wife would be very appreciative! Let me know if anyone needs more details. Thanks.

So I drove the mini this morning to work. There are no dash illumination lights. Other lights on the dash work properly. DCS light turns on, cruise control light turns on, odometer and outside temp show. The turn signals work outside the vehicle but not on the dash. The radio works. Door locks work with the toggle switch and the remote. Any ideas.
Hello,
I would scan the car with a MINI schwaben scan tool and see the codes. My guess is either the battery, bad battery connection, BCM is bad or corroded.
Thanks
Mike

I'm going through similar issues with our 08 R52 with 87,000 miles. It spontaneously shuts down and then starts back up while driving, other times the wipers start on their own, the radio shuts off, etc. The AGM battery appears good, and the grounds appear good. I had the parts on hand, so I replaced the ignition switch and neutral position switch, but no improvement. The codes that have come up on my Schwaben scanner are: 90: GM info-memory entry open circuit power supply BC1, and CF14/not present EGS CAN message, engine management. I'm going to pull the BCM and look for water/corrosion and then go from there. I've been told that there are several sources to reprogram the BCM if that is what is needed. Installing a BCM from another car may be a possibility it you can find one with the same part number and same options (the BCM has a sticker that shows the VIN), but the remote locking won't work without reprogramming.
I finally was able to buy a Scwaben scanner and have time to connect it. When I tried to read the body module - BM On-board monitor, CVM Convertible top module, and CVM2 Convertible top module 2 all show no communication. I did have other codes for the Air bag system. For anyone interested or in case they feel they may be related, the codes at the time were 92 KOMBI MRSZ5 malfunction in airbase system. 91 KOMBI MRSZ5 airbag control unit faulty (Alive counter, K bus message 70h). 91 KOMBI K bus communication between MRS4/MRS5 and instrument cluster faulty. 50 KOMBI Vehicle Identification number in ZKE and instrumentation is different.
It gets worse. The mini was drivable up until Wednesday evening. My wife met me at a restaurant driving over from work. No issues. She gets in to go home and the car tried to start and died immediately. A couple more times like that and won't stay started for more than a couple of seconds. Then it would only crank, no start. I had to have it towed home, which actually was pretty quick, thankfully.
I put the code reader on it and it has some new codes. 1656 present DME EWS incorrect code. 1617 not present DME Control unit H- bridge driver. 500 not present DME Vehicle- speed signal - malfunction.
I also had two additional codes. 5E19 not present ABS-DSC CAN data error from DME/DDE (DSC lamp on as long as error is present). 5E5C not present ABS/DSC Initialize Run Flat Indicator. See owner's handbook.
I'm going to start with the throttle body to see what I can see. I am a bit limited on electrical troubleshooting tools, just the Scwaben scanner and a DMM.
Thoughts? Magic bullets?

Make sure you have the ignition on/car off and cable is securely connected. No Bent pins or anything. Also make sure the battery cables or on tight and no bad connections from the battery to ALT and Battery to starter. Test the battery, if good put it on the trickle changer. Then use our scan tool. When the tool can NOT communicate with the modules its usually a break in the system or a shot battery.
Hope that helps and let us know.
