I'm in the middle of timing chain and valve stem seal replacement.
While installing cams, noticed the position of eccentric shaft is little off. Maybe a tooth off?

Do I need to worry about this?
If I need to align this again, do I need to take the cams out? and re do?

 

That bearing cap has a physical limit stop, correct? In your assembled picture, is that gear resting on the stop? I believe when you reinstall the servo motor, you adjust it to the stop, but I think you want it resting there when under spring tension. Are all your shaft springs seated correctly?

 

Servo motor was never removed. Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's all seated properly, just that the gear is a teeth off.

 

For the peace of mind, I just removed it again and installed back at the position it was removed. I'm getting better with this. all done in 20min.

 

The last step for that piece is to adjust the servo motor so that the gear is resting on the stop. So as long as you get it assembled with the gear in the stop, you’ll probably be fine.

 

The position of the eccentric shaft is controlled by the motor as you know. It will move as soon as you turn on the ignition. It doesn't matter if it's on the stop or not when you assemble it because the DME will move it to where it needs to be.

If you've just replaced your timing chain, don't forget to reset your adaptations.
