Servicing Supercharger Hiccup (Ok, give it to me straight)
New owner of a R52 purchase from an older couple (60's+) whom owned it for the last 10 years. Decided to do a once over on all maintenance items + from crank pulley to water pump/aluminum thermostat to supercharger servicing.
Went to drain the water pump gear side of its oil and literal DUST poured out..... Mind you the supercharger showed no symptoms of anything wrong, I was servicing it for peace of mind. Fortunately the other side was full and uncontaminated and the rotors look silky smooth (I'll attach pics) How screwed am I? LITERAL POWDER Dry like the Sahara desert Considering everything, the teeth on the gears ACTUALLY look good Was happy to find oil at last, stinky stuff thou (Those are bubbles, came out clear with no debris, I thoroughly checked) See the oil and the condition of these at least brighten the moment a bit.
There are a few shops that specialize in this repair...
But... What is the end result... and cost of shipping, service cost and your own time.
Used Mini parts vendors have reasonable prices on good Superchargers.... Do a clean, reseal, fluid on both ends of that good used unit and call it good.
A good used unit... you can do the services needed... you may be able to replace the pump drive if you have the right equipment and comfort level though.

Its a good question....

Good luck

Upon further investigation I have found that one rotor has a little too much play (I sure sign of bearing fatigue) at this point since it's already off I'm going to opt for potentially getting a good used one and then since my rotors are coated and in pristine condition opt for Detroit Tuned to rebuild it with their updated PTO side. Figure a solid used one will provide additional life/time to get the funds and other charger sorted.
