So, I have a 2011 Mini Cooper Hardtop base model with the N16 engine. I've recently redone the gaskets and cleaned up a ton of oil/coolant that was where it wasn't supposed to be, and now I'm putting everything back together. There are a few cables that I can't figure out where they belong though, hopefully y'all can help.
First up is cable (#1) that leaves the main control box, and is bound with the wiring that goes along the fuel rail. After the injectors it continues on for a couple feet. I suspect it may be "Adapter for oil pump solenoid valve" (12518626763), however I'm not sure because it shares the same plug as wire #2. #1 has red/white wires under its sheath and has BMW 7543312-02 printed on it. #1 Adapter for oil pump solenoid valve? (12518626763)
The second and third mystery cables are bound together and much shorter. #2 only has a length of about 6 inches after splitting from #3, it appears to be the same plug as #1 but without the text printed on it. Plug coming out of the oil pump and connected to either #1 or #2? (757906102)
Cable #3 appears to plug into the crankcase breather hose underneath the manifold. However, I also have a 'leftover' cable (#4), "Crankcase Vent Blow-by Extension" (12527568769), that seems to want to be plugged in as an unneeded extension for #3 to get to the crankcase vent hose plug. #4 Crankcase Vent Blow-by Extension 12527568769
Finally, #5, branches off from its main cluster just before the grey throttle housing plug. I can't for the life of me figure out where it's supposed to plug, but it's got a foot or two of length so it could go anywhere.
#5 "Old Bluey"
I've been scratching my head for a while over these wires and can't figure it out. If you need any clarifications, just let me know.
Could you peel back the sheathing or insulator to expose the colour wire? That will tell you alot where it goes as long as you have the electrical schematics from the Bentley service manual.

I have the Bentley service manual, but the schematics/diagrams section doesn't seem to mention wire color. I can post pictures from the svc manual if it's just a matter of interpreting the wiring diagrams.
Hmmmm.....that's really weird. Generally most schematics and especially Bently publishing should have colour identifying each wire; like the example photo below
I figured out what I was missing yesterday. Apparently in my Bentley manual they use the DIN (German) abbreviations for the colors. So instead of seeing RED/YEL, I would see RT/GE. Below is a list for anyone else struggling with this.
Black - SW
Blue - BL
Brown - BR
Green - GN
Gray - GR
Orange - OR
Pink - RS
Purple - VI
Red - RT
Turquoise - TK
White - WS
Yellow - GE
At this point, the only one that I can't identify is #1, I'm 90% sure on the rest of them but I'm not finding very many instances of a 2 pin connector with red and white wires.
After looking through the hundreds of pages of wiring diagrams I simply could not find a wire that seemed to match this one. Deciding that I should try finding the specific pin that it connects to in the ECU, I discover that this wire has been spliced in to the main cluster at the ECU with electrical tape. The white is spliced with white, but the red wire is spliced into an orange wire. It was all wrapped super tight, so I never really thought anything of it as it blended in with the existing wire sleeves.
Is it possible that this wire was 'replaced' at some point in the vehicle's past, and both cable #1 and cable #2 are the same cable? Does anyone know if the plug in #1/#2 are unique down there or do multiple systems use the same plug? If this isn't the case, does anyone have any advice on decoding which pin/wire does what based on its connection point at the ECU?
