Crankshaft locks in two positions? (R56, N12)

Hello. Finishing a head gasket job and it seems my crankshaft will lock in two positions. Both positions result in the pistons level and about halfway up the cylinder. One position happens when piston 1 (first one from timing chain side) is going down, one when it is going up.

Everything I have googled states "There's only one locking hole on the flywheel" but it simply isn't true. I've tested it a dozen times and there are two distinct positions. Since there is no timing chain at the moment, I can't use the markings on the cam shafts to help me.

Which one is correct?

Mike

You know what. Nevermind.

I inspected with a mirror. There's only one hole. The locking tool was catching on a raised area of the flywheel that happened to be 180 out from the hole. With the mirror it is obvious.

Thanks for listening.
