F54 (F54 Facelift) Speedo error
(F54 Facelift) Speedo error
Just sold my 2017 F54 and bought a 2024 F54. The 2017 had a consistent speedo error of about 3 mph. faster than actual (this I could live with). But now my 2024 seems to have a different error built in. The other day on the expressway I was driving 65mph in a 65mph zone. I felt like I was a nuisance on the road. I was almost run over. I did some checking with my phones gps and I was going about 11 mph slow. After looking into this issue I found one person that said the error (built in) is (3mph + 10%) of your current true speed. (QUESTION), Is there any way to set the speedo to read actual speed. Perhaps thru OBDII?
Nope, not that i know of. The speedo should be in the 3mph range. Only thing that changes this is if you put on larger aftermarket wheels with a different ratio or tire size.
11 mph slower, should not be off that much, either its a calibration from BMW group error or the GPS signal was not correct.

yep, never seen one off that much. I just drove my r52 with factory garmin nav and it was like 3mph off, GPS was 3mph slower then the car speedo.

Update on the speedo error.
I spoke to one of the service personnel who told me that the built in speedo error on the new MINIs is 10%. That means at 70 mph the speedo is showing 77 (7 mph fast). I tried to double check mine as the first time I checked it, I had a larger amount but the expressway traffic wouldn't allow it. I'll try checking it again at a later date as my first test showed 10 or 11 mph.

10% sounds high for default speedometer offset. I would expect 3-5% offset, but not 10%.
For what its worth, the EU requires that the speedometer NEVER read lower than actual speed with factory recommended tire size. That is why the speedo always reads high.

11 mph seems way off, too much for that fact. Trying to use surrounding traffic for your speed isn't a great method, considering how folks drive these days. I have a 12 mile expressway commute each day to and from work and can say surrounding traffic is never anything consistent. 70 mph speed limit on the 12 mile stretch and I have almost run over folks when doing 72, while I had one guy blow by me like I was standing still while scooting along at 95 mph! The mechanic saying 10% offset sounds a bit too 'generic' IMHO.
My '17 F54 is a steady 2 mph high reading vs actual, across the entire speed range. I have checked it via GPS and any mobile radar traffic sign, steadfast 2 mph offset. My wife's '19 Wrangler has zero mph offset via the same methods, so I feel confident that my numbers are 'real'.

I've been having this same issue in my 2021 with digital dash. The service dept said there was nothing wrong and nothing they could do so I was wondering if there is a way to re-calibrate it using a scan tool of some sort? I currently have OBDEleven but will be getting Bimmercode soon I hope.
I am constantly showing the speed is 5-11mph faster than GPS and other indicators like the radar sign on my street I pass daily, etc... My last car even with modified suspension and wheels never had a variance from Waze/GPS or radar.
