I've been having issues with a p1497 code don't know what it is I've checked hoses and replaced a boost solinoid that was surely bad and still didn't chaing a thing, the car runs fine every now an then I'll get a slight hesitation, but I can't pass emissions. Ive listened of the engine for vacuum leaks but can't find one I thought for sure I had it when I found that my boost control solinoid was intermittently losing vacuum from a slight tap. I pulled the spark plugs out and the ones closest to the transmission have a yellow matte coating from the research I've done it is called glazing but I don't really see a hint of a shine but it described glazing as a yellowish coating on the insulater tip that builds up from abnormal air fuel mix. The plugs should I replaced them about a year ago they all have this build up but cylinders 1&2 have very little compared to 3&4 I'm going to replace the coil packs and hope that helps. During acceleration I csn hear a whooshing sound that sounds like it is comming from the intake I never heard it before until I started having the p1497 issues so i know its not normal i just dont onow what it is or lack the information to properly diagnois the issue i have a bently manuel but honestly its pretty usless beside the wiring diagrams which i have found to be inconsistent with wire colors.
I've checked just about every thing that could be externally leaking air pvc hoses, I've heard issues with timing could cause this problem I pulled the valve cover off and it looks to be good it doesn't look like it jumped a tooth but they aren't exactly completely facing up right when you level out the flat part of the cam. I checked my diverter valve searching for the causeof the wooshing sound and the diaphragm isn't torn so I assume it's okay unless it's lifting off the seat at a certain psi, going to try replacing my valve cover with an old I keept and see if that will chaing any thing. When I look at the data on my scanner ltft is at -10% but I just confused becuaes it should be + if there was unmetered air comming in? At 2000-2500rpm my intake manifold adsoluye pressur is at 3.9 ish don't know if this is normal becuae I'd imagine that the turbo would build up pressure I just don't know at what rpm it starts building boost hopefully some of this info will help any body get an idea what I'm dealing with here.
At this point all I can really do is visually inspect things bently offers no help with trouble shooting engine managment issues so I can't properly use the info on my scanner to diagnose becuase I have no info to compare it to.
Pulled my turbo shield off and thier seems to be oil comming from the gasket between the exhaust not sure if if that could be an issue I guess I need to replace exhaust gasket know.
Your plugs look like the “Lead Fouled” in the guide. Are you using fuel additives / octane boosters?
I do every now and then it's usually marvel mystery oil or a little bit of sea foam the last time i was doing a carbon cleaning, but it's been a few fill ups since I've used any additives. I know what you mean though but these are more yellow than they look in on camera I've seen additive Fouled plugs before and they look more like they are rusted.
Been doing some diagnostics with my new scanner tool, fule trims is -10short and -10long. My upstream o2 sensor has a low steady signal wich on mini coopers a low signal on the o2 means a rich condition but I'm getting a p1497 code? I'm also seeing occasional spikes in the maf but idk if that's just related to the little hiccup that seems like a slight miss fire that happens during that time or if the hiccup is becuae of the spike on the maf sensor signal. I'm wondering if a week ignition coils could be causing insufficient burn of the mixture resulting in the ecm thinking thier is excessive air. Or a bad o2 sensor I'm almost positive I don't have a vacum leak unless it's with the pcv system but I've check the valve cover while off and both ends seems to seal when they should, but the thing is is that the o2 sensors are reporting a slightly rich wave form And -10 on ltft.
