Let's play 'Bring-A-Trailer Bingo:' 2006 R53 JCW Slickroof

Oregon car, 99K miles, Chili Red, got the upgraded seats and one seemingly uncommon distinction: a slick roof; no panoramic moonroof.

Day 1 of the auction and the bid is currently $2106 as this is written. No reserve auction so it's going to sell at some price, what will it be?

I'll start with a ridiculously uninformed $11,899

What say you?

Yeah saw that. Was just having a bit of fun given the rarity - and desirability by many - of the slick roof. Since we can't delete threads on this board, will just let it ride. Good luck to the seller, fine example should bring a great price.

Just went through the auction... Looks like it has all the enthusiast options, with the exception of the Chrono Package. There is an accident on the CarFax, but soooo long ago. Looks like it was taken care of, too. I'm going to go with $15k.

I'll guess $15,053

My JCW slicktop was built 8 days earlier than this one on Sept. 1, 2006,
although mine had much less options added.

Clean slicktop! I like how the seller has been repairing the damaged parts that readers have found! Hopefully that helps the car sell for a higher price! I think this will go for $13,900!

I thought JCWs of this era all had carbon fiber dashes. No?

The only 1st gen that I know of with a carbon dash from the factory was the MC40.

Pretty good bargain there, especially for BaT!

Is the used car market now past its crazy peak? Things were getting insane the last few years and I think we were in sort of an overvaluation bubble, has the bank collapse finally shocked people back into sensibility?

Although there will always be a bit of bonkers with the classic/cult car market I'd reckon.

There's a couple of R53's up on C&B right now:

I agree that it was a good buy! I certainly think we're post peak in the current cycle. Most R53's live in the price point that could be readily purchased with cash though, so who knows. I think the seller was just unlucky with the people bidding - there wasn't any crazy last minute bidding that something like this had. https://carsandbids.com/auctions/37l...-mini-cooper-s Which has a lot more miles, heavily modified, and the same color. But I guess that's the positive/negative of an auction with no reserve!

I got my 06 JCW slicktop for $12,053 a few years ago (before COVID) on BAT.
61k miles or thereabouts when I got it.
