Insurance Question

Curious to know what most of you are doing for insurance? A simple check on NADA or a similar site doesn't list the GP as an option, and if something should happen to my car, I want to make sure insurance takes care of me.

So my question is - are you using some sort of collector car insurance with an agreed value? Or do you have your GP on your standard policy and just hoping for the best in case of an accident?

Thanks in advance!

If you have an existing policy, and want to add the GP, call your agent and ask about an agreed value policy. You'll likely get a better deal as an add-on vehicle than trying to insure the car on a stand-alone policy. Also ask about limited use vehicle coverage. Most companies are more than willing to put together a policy that fits your needs and use.

I have Geico for my regularly driven cars, and then the GP and S2000 are on a collector car policy through Grundy. For me personally, it was still cheaper to go with a separate insurer. Like @njaremka said, you choose an agreed value for it in case it's totaled - the cost is significantly less than a normal policy - but there are restrictions on how it can be driven.

Perhaps I will look into Grundy. I attempted to add the GP onto my existing policy with my Porsche 993, but they stated that my daily, a '97 Land Cruiser was too old - though it is on a separate policy with State Farm. Perhaps it is time to switch from American Modern, to one of the better options.

Thank you both for your input!

Try to find a local enthusiast agent, and have a conversation about insuring collector cars. Maybe they have a policy option that could benefit your use case

I was able to relatively easily get an agreed value policy for my Z with Erie. Not really worth it for the JCW, but the option is also there.

I'll check with a few local guys, but for me, my GP is worth doing it so I don't get screwed should something happen. Its only got 10k miles - still looks like new!
