MCS Oil Cooler - 250 bucks
Just saw this in the Vendor Announcements:

Like the Madness one, it doesn't seem to have any type of theromstat or bypass to prevent temps from getting too low. But, at less than half the price, heck, one can add that feature afterwards...

I seem to recall 240 to 270 degrees being fairly normal, in non-track conditions, where 300+ is doable... It also depends where one taps from. The pan is the easiest place, but not the most ideal. jlm tapped the oil filter housing I believe, and I would think that's a better place. And that actually brings-up a point... I don't think this unit offers oil temp or pressure tap points, unlike the Madness one. Drat...
We have one alright.
I guess it's sort of like we have a stock intake, SC pulley, exhaust, etc... yet we want more output from our 1.6. With the increased power production, one by-product is the creation of additional heat. So, one would expect oil temps to rise higher than an otherwise stock set-up...
Apparently synthetics handle higher temps fairly well though. I'm sure that there must be an ideal operating temp range for us that maintains ideal viscosity, which would promote less wear & tear...

Yea, actually, a good response. I'm concerned with heat and definately willing to spend $$$ to eliminate heat while adding power. I just never questioned the oil cooler. And one with a thermostat would nice...so we avoid all that whitish tan over cool oil gunking things up when it's cold out.

I first want to know where is our sweet spot... I think that it is important to know what temps we are aiming for. I have come to learn that too cold is not a good thing, just like too hot is obviously bad...
Once this is clear, I'd like a unit that can regulate accordingly, and I really want one with at least one tap point, in my case for oil temp (I already have pressure from the stock location, a la PROMINI). I would venture to guess that anyone willing to install an aftermkt oil cooler, will also have or want to have a gauge or two related to it...
I have yet to see such an oil cooler...
