My Mini S Convertible from 2017 is suddenly having an issue. I can move the automatic gear shifter smoothly, into R, N, D and back into Park. But when I move it to D (and it lights Green), the steering column display doesn't show it is in Drive. The car stays in Neutral. (not displaying the N though). I have to put the car into Park. From Park I VERY QUICKLY and hard move it into Drive. Only then does the car go into Drive. After that the car drives smoothly. The manual/sport up and down gears works no problem once in Drive. I have to go through the process every time I want to put it into drive.
Is anyone experiencing anything like this? Does anyone know what the issue is?
If you can remove the battery and battery tray, take a look at the nut between 1 and 2
for being loose.
IF nut is loose, make sure shifter is in Park, and lever is engaged in Park before tightening.

The shifter says you're in D
The dash doesnt say you're in D
The black box under the lever reports what gear you are in.
So the logic is that the lever isn't pulled (or pushed) enough by the shift cable (marked 2)
When you pull quickly it probably puts it in D by the sheer momentum.
Makes sense the adjustment slipped.
Thats what I would try first.
You might be able to do it with only removing the intake filter box.
Worth a shot, if you can fix it, that s $400 dealer labor bill.
