F55/F56 2017 F56S Front Wheel Bearing replacement
2017 F56S Front Wheel Bearing replacement
When I bought my 2017 MCS (used) there was a telltale noise coming from what I think is left front suggesting that the wheel bearing was on its way out. Put it on the "to investigate" list.
Courtesy of a pothole encountered by the left front at highway speed, the noise is now louder and, well, not much of a guess as to whether it's the left front.
I managed to land some how-to instructions and the process is straightforward. But there's this one very interesting note:
I went over to realoem.com to try to figure out parts here, and there are similar warnings about changes in thread pitch of (1) the screws that hold the hub assembly to the carrier, and (2) the collar bolt itself.
Anybody out there replaced this bearing on an F56 and run across this? Any guidance to offer?
Also: Genuine MINI part is an easy go to, but I have seen at least one recommend in the forum to get a Timken part? Pros/cons/reasons? Interested to know. Thanks!

Caution! - Consider the assignment of wheel bearing - collar bolt! It is possible that wheel bearing with thread M12x1.5 or M12x1.25 has been installed.

You mean either
M12X1.25 X45
or
M16X1.5 X60
Remove the wheel, and remove the center collar bolt by itself to measure the bolt
The difference between 12mm and 16mm bolt thickness will be measurable.
The 12mm is 45mm long, and th 16mm is 60mm long
BTW If you remove the bolt, do NOT have the wheel hanging, it bolts in the axle stub.
Call ECS, and give them you rVIN, they will tell you which bearing you need.
