r56 shift **** in an lci f56

I have been doing research on a replacement shift **** for the f56. I can tolerate the stock **** but I really miss the shape of the one I have the miata for 20 years..... the stock 5spd r50. I just want a standard 2" round ****.

In this thread I found here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ift-*****.html.... it talks about how r56 ***** will fit. I found a deal on a stock r56 6spd ****.... correct pattern... still the thread-less bwm/mini style.

I was warm enough today to try and swap it out. It all came apart easily enough. However when I tried to get the r56 **** to stop spinning, I couldn't get it down enough. I tried various forms of whacking, etc, but I just wouldn't go down enough to lock. I could feel it get to the same spot as the stock f56 ****, where a little whack would "set it". I'm wondering since it seems like there is a screw up in the top to old the chrome ring on is enough to not fit the channel for the f56.

Anybody have any suggestions? I already have a thread adapter to get to m12x1.25 (brz, sti, focus st) but I just haven't found the right **** yet.
