I have a 1961 Morris cooper with a 1964 cooper S engine and trans. the car hasnt been running for about 4 years now because i need help with it. All what i need is to get the HIF 44 adjusted. there maybe other small things but that is the main one.

Sorry I'm not closer (Kansas) but all I work on are classic Minis.....however you say it has an HIF44? Should have had a pair of H2's on there.....

What are the symptoms you're trying to address?

 

If it does run it runs really bad and smoked a very little.

I had twin carbs on and the gas line started to leak for them and they where really hard to work on do to there wasn't any space so I got the single carb. Now nobody knows how to adjust it.

I'm not looking to fix the problem myself because I already tried for years so I don't get what's the point in trying some more. I these need to find someone to fix it.

I think what MiniDave is saying is you don't have the original carb set up ..... and once that happens ... welllll ......

MiniWorld as I've read it for the last 15 years would say you need a 'rolling road' <dyno> and someone who KNOW's SU carbs and a a WIDE selection of needles on hand ....... cuz the run profile of the SU is ALL in the needle after idle speed . . .

Yes I don't have the original carburetor on I switched it to the single carb. The only single carb you can get for this engine on 7ent.com. if you would like but regardless of the car that I'm running or the camshaft that I'm driving or the gearing that I'm running that doesn't help me in finding a mechanic.

this is another reason why I don't like chat forms. We are trying to make small talk about something that I'm not talking about.

I am just trying to ask for a simple question about is there a mechanic around me or near my area that anybody on here knows about so I can get my car back on the road after almost 5 years. If so I would very much appreciate it...... and that's it.

They specialize in Jaguars and British cars in general. I have taken my old MGB and Jag there and they did an excellent job.

 

The HIF44 is very easy and simple to adjust - there is a small screw on the left side (as you face the carb) towards the back, it comes in at about a 45* angle so it's a little hard to find, use a smallish screwdriver and know that it works the opposite of every other carb in that you screw it in to richen the mixture. However, that assumes it has the correct needle to begin with, and the orings are intact in the choke mechanism. Likewise, if the carb was bought used and was one of a set off an MGB, it may be missing some of the important parts that control idle and slow running. If it's a carb for a Mini, then a BDK or BDL needle is a good start.

The Capn is right in that using a rolling road is the only way to get it dead nuts right, but you can probably get it pretty close just by taking a look at the plugs after a good run down the highway

 

If it's that easy someone else can do it.

It's only me. So it's very hard to start the car and run out and adjust it and run back in.

OP probably hasn't heard about certain types of classic Mini carbs failing due to bad grammar/spelling by the driver. Poor online manners make the carb even worse! I've heard they call the offenders 'gasholes'.
