Retrofit Mini Alarm (non-prewired)

Hello all,

Much to my dismay my 2011 Clubman JCW did not have the OEM alarm installed from the factory. As you may be aware, Mini stopped pre-wiring these cars for the alarm some time in 2010 meaning the job of retrofitting this system into the car became an order of magnitude more difficult due to having to route the retrofit harness. I would like to get the alarm installed in order to get the audible lock confirmation functionality working. I ordered the full kit from ECSTuning as they had it on sale and I have been researching how to install it. It looks like the biggest pain in the rear with this is running the harness to (and past) the CAS which is mounting under the top of the dash on the drivers side (F-U BMW for putting it there!) The only reason I can see that it needs to route to the CAS is for a single wire to be pinned into it for the hood switch. I have previously wired in the KOMBI to the SPEG to get the LED to light up so there is no other reason for me to bother with routing anything to the driver side.

What I am contemplating is forgoing that route and simply running the harness into the passenger side to the SPEG and FRM (and of course up to the overhead for the occupancy sensor). I suspect the only effect of skipping the hood switch is that the CAS will not be able to detect if the hood is opened for the alarm to go off. That is not a problem for me and would save so much interior disassembly. I doubt anyone here will have any experience with doing this but I figured I would share what I was thinking.

Part number? I can look for the old alarm install to help you.

This is the kit I bought from you: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/65120443179/

Again, I do have the installation instructions for this. (attached) The issue (and I knew this when I bought) is that you have to access the CAS module under the upper dash which requires a lot of disassembly. What I am looking at is if I can just skip installing and pinning the hood switch into the CAS and route the harness through the passenger side to the SPEG and FRM directly which would involve a lot less disassembly. This is really only possible as I have already retrofit the wires for the KOMBI lights separately so I am just wiring in the Siren and the Ultrasonic Module.

Yep so you got the install kit, that now nla, yes thats what i would do. The thing is the coding side. And also knowing all the pinouts on the kit. I dont have the wire diagram for it

The instructions have a complete wiring diagram with pin-outs on the last pages. They also detail which connectors on each module to access and pin into. I should be good there.

As for coding, I have a complete coding setup (laptop, esys cable, etc...) so I should be able to code the relevant modules to activate the alarm once it is retrofit. I think it is as simple as adding $302 to the VO and coding the SPEG and FRM. I would likely skip coding the CAS as it would not see any changes anyway if I skip the hood pin.

Update to all. I completed the installation!! I did as I suggested and simply skipped the CAS module and didn't install the hood pin switch. I routed the retrofit harness over to the passenger side and dropped it through the grommet there and into the passenger footwell area. I was then able to pin into the SPEG and FRM following the installation instructions. It is important to learn the german words for colors as the wires are not labeled and the instructions give the colors in the german abbreviations. Once I routed the ultrasonic module wires up the overhead console and terminated them the UT unit snapped right in and I plugged it in. Since I had previously activated the codes in the FRM and SPEG for the alarm I didn't even have to do any coding! Once I completed the install and hooked up the battery again the audible alarm chirps worked right off!! :D
