Battery not charged notification on a 6 y.o Cooper SD F56 with new battery

My Mini Cooper SD F56 is 6 years old and around 107000KM, started to show Battery not charging notification.
3 weeks ago It used to come for just a moment and then disappear, then it came and stayed a bit longer from time to time.

Afterwards I brought it to BMW garage and they said I had mice nest and oil all over the place. They cleaned it and it showed less often.

Afterwards I bought a new battery and it was ok for a while, but today it appeared and stayed.

Besides that there is no problem for now at all.

My assumption is that the alternator needs to be changed, since it's lifespan is 5-7 years and it's now 6 years old or maybe it was damaged from the oil / mice damage.

Do you think it can be some other reason?
If I will change the alternator and discover it wasn't the problem it should not be a waste, since it's lifespan is over or should be over soon anwyay. Right?
