Tail Light question - LED related

Note: She has a 2020 F55.

Ok, so I've been out of the Mini game for a bit but, I've done a lot of reading in terms of tail light swaps, etc... However, I have come across an issue that shouldnt be an issue, IMO. Maybe someone here has had this issue?

So a friend of mine, one of her rear tail lights was hit (I think someone rear-ended her in the parking lot) and it cracked the tail light housing. I've done light swaps on my past Mini, so I knew what to do. I ordered the lights for her and changed them out.

Here is where the issue begins. Her car came from the factory with the LED circular lights, LED fog lights and halogen headlights. She likes the Union Jack tail lights, so I ordered the genuine Mini/BMW LED Union Jack tail lights. They work perfectly with no issues whatsoever (functionality wise) but, theyre throwing the following messages in the screen:

*RIGHT BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION
*LEFT BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION

I've looked all over and found one video that I thought was going to fix the issue but, it did not. I've tried getting rid of the messages via BimmerCode but, that didnt work. Everything is correct. So not sure what to do. Any advice would be very helpful.

Did you check to see if the brake and turn signal bulb setting were set to led?

If I remember correctly, I did. But I will check again today. Just to make sure, this portion is done in expert mode of BimmerCode, correct?

Ok, so I went up to the dealer and spoke to the service advisor I used when I took my car in, and he said that in the system it shows you can use either the ones she had or the new ones I put in for her. However, her old ones were LED & halogen bulbs. I assume the new ones are all LED instead? The connector was exactly the same, and there is NO hyper flash. He said they could try and reprogram them for $195.00 but, I'd rather be able to take care of it via BimmerCode if possible.

Ok, I got the error messages cleared, however, now when she applies the brakes, the blinkers don't blink. Well, they do but, it is a VERY LIGHT blink (light stays on all the time and you can only tell its blinking because there is a VERY faint dim to the blinker). I unplugged the lights and tried again but, that didn't fix anything.

I'm stumped.

Hi FunToMini,

Were you able to resolve this issue?

A few of my friends did the same upgrade as you and followed the coding process from The MINI Vlog on YouTube and everything functioned normally.

Here’s the link to his video and playlist about the upgrade and coding process in BimmerCode.

I hope this helps and resolves the issue,

Rich
